Is There A Primer on SERP You Can Recommend?

I've come to the realization that I have more to learn than I thought
. I was trying to use prChecker and Google Page Rank Checker just to get a baseline on some of my site's pages. But both sites returned negative results for any page on my site.
How should I interpret this? From Hubspot's Website Grader, I know I have over 80 pages from my site indexed with Google. I'm thinking I'm missing something fundamental about SERP and need to plug the hole.
Is there a good reference out there on SERP that anyone could recommend?
