How to find position of a website?

Warriors:

Is there a tool that can help find the placement in Google for my website for a particular keyword phrase? For example, if I'm trying to optimize a site for the term "connecticut horse breeders," is there a tool that will tell me what page or position my website is in for that keyword? Or, do I have to click through every page and look for it manually?

Regards,
Dino

    I highly recommend using:

Rank Tracker - Track Your Search Engine Rankings Easily!

It logs all of the search results so you can track your progress, and it can also search in any local google around the world.

Does any of the above tools check beyond 1000th result i.e. 100th page(@10 per page)?

Still to find any tool that does, which would be very useful.

Unfortunately, that is a limitation of Google that I don't think can be overcome. Google limits searches to 1000. I don't know how useful that would be though. Does it matter if your site is 1001 or 5001? No ;-)

          Thanks Tom for the info.

Are you saying search results are limited to the first 1000 results by google? I thought results exceeded this.

I think it does, otherwise the same argument would go for 801 or 2001 etc

It does. 801 isn't going to get your anything. Hell position 101 isn't going to get you anything. Who do you know that sifts through 10 pages of search results? I don't know any. If people had to do that much searching they would go to a different search engine.

Google is pretty good at what it does. I can always find the information I'm looking for on the first page or the second at worst.

Why i think it matters to view whatever position your keyword phrase is on is because to me, that current positon is just a means to an end and not an end in itself.

You can subsequently have the motivation to tweak and monitor continuosly until it climbs to the first page.

But what you cannot view and don't know whether it is at position 10000, then what motivation would you have to tweak and how long would you imagine you would have to tweak before you get to your desired position?

The funny thing, it might just be at 1001th position which you cannot view and you may abandon further work on that particular keyword phrase out of lack of information.

Well I'd say that if it's not showing up at all in the top 1000 then you should definitely still be working on it. That's the perfect indicator that you need to do more work. So whether or not its 1001 or 10001, you still need to be working on improving it.

Yes, that's what i'm saying ;-) In the google search screen, go to advanced options and set the results per page to 100, and test it for yourself. You can't go beyond 10 pages (100x10).

That's why if you use a program that scrapes from google (like scrapebox), it doesn't allow you to exceed 1000 search results. of course, with scraping sites you can sort of get around that by adding various keywords and TLDs (so each search is still only 1000, but after doing lots of searches you end up with a composite result much larger).
