There are many people here who will say keyword density and SEO have no place in sales copy. I disagree.

As copywriters we all have to work with constraints. If we deliver perfect copy but in doing so we eliminate one of our client's planned traffic sources no one ever sees it.

If the client is planning to use SEO to place his sales page then I typically write the copy then go back and see where I can place the keyword phrases and related keyword phrases in ways that will not impact the overall sales process.

Typically I also advise the client to consider creating lead generation pages that will do well on Google THEN direct people to the sales page.

About specific keyword density: I don't have a "special number" I shoot for--I allow the client to tell me what keyword density he wants and what keyword phrases he wants to use and work from there. I don't do SEO--well, pay me enough and I would, but I don't typically do SEO.

It is really simple. Are you mailing the sales copy... then no...SEO is not important.

If your copy depends on search engine traffic, I guess SEO is very important and I would definitely use my keywords at strategic places.

    Just my two cents!

I agree with Montello! By SEO I don't mean keyword stuffing, just using H1 tags etcetera.
