KW research/Google Ads question...

Hey y'all!

I'm a little confused about something.

I'm drillin'down in Google Wonder Wheel to get variants on my seed kw. As I drill down, I find one 3 word kw phrase where the # of results are 13,571. I'm cool with that. Over on the right, there's at least 10 ads. I'm assuming those are people PAYING for those ads, right?

So...

DOH!

I think I just answered my own question, but let me make sure I got it right. Just because the people on the right paid for those ads, doesn't necessarily mean they have a website IN ADDITION to those ads, right?

What I was worried about, was seeing only 13K odd sites, getting half-way excited about it, then seeing all those ads and going "oh great, that's just extra added competition".

Can you tell this is my first time doing THOROUGH kw research?

Please don't go too hard on me!

I really don't think I understood your question but I'll answer what I think your question is

Those ads can be extra competition but hey if you are on the left side of the page, you are the one in spotlight so you will get more exposure.

Thanks man I know I ramble when I type.

I also know I need to analyze the comp, as far as THEIR on/off page SEO, etc.

      Appreciate it!

Well, it seems that your 3-word keyword phrase chosen is quite good to get you started with that niche since it has less competition in the search network. Here's also few numbers that could help determine viability of your niche:

SEO Competition should be less than 30,000
SEO Traffic should be more than 80
Phrase-to-broad keyword search should be more than 15%

Also, I recommend you use Market Samurai to help you with analysis. They also use Google's algorithm so the results wouldn't differ a lot.

      Thanks Tyrone!

I agree with you about MS. Too bad my laptop is basically DEAD, so my only pc access is the computer room in the apt complex I live in. Of course, we don't have admin rights so I can't install anything!

Yes those adds that you refer to are paid or sponsored adds served up by Google as well as the adds that appear on the top of the page. If I may point out that recently a lot of the main research companies have supplied strong data on the fact that something like 80% of internet users do not trust these adds as they have come to learn and understand that adds are people who are only selling.

Most internet surfers do one of two things when surfing the net, 1) they are looking for a soloution to a problem, (normally a free soloution) and 2) they are conducting research. What does this mean for you?

Well for one do not treat sponsored adds an issue for you unless you have the big dollars to compete with these players. Focus on generating free organic traffic by doing your own SEO, you will find lots of good advice here on these forums to help you on this subject.

Next, don't make the mistake of analyzing the sponsored adds competitors as they are in fact not really competitors that you can afford to compete with, instead spend your time focus on the organic result, the free results on the left side of the page. These my friend are your competitors in terms of free organic search and that is what you are looking for after all is said and done.

Hope this helps and the best of luck to you.

      Thanks Kieron.

Yeah, I definitely don't have the dollars to compete with the heavy hitters. I can't even afford to do the $19/mth for Aweber. I'm gonna put that on hold for now.

Yeah I'm going to be focusing on better SEO on my pages, and backlinking.

      Later,
