SEO Experts: I'm Stumped On This One (Would Really Appreciate Some Advice)

Hey SEO Warriors,

So, recently I tried testing an SEO theory to see what would happen.

A friend of mine said I could try it on one of his websites (which was ranking on page 4 for his keywords). Anyway, I set up some satellite blogs and they were hosted on separate C-Class domains.

The result was that the couple sites I linked to from these satellite blogs ended up totally disappearing from Google a couple days ago, and unfortunately one them was one my own sites ranking on the 1st page of Google (stupid I know).

I feel slightly embarrassed by this blunder! But I have to swallow my pride and ask for some help, because I'm stumped...and here's the problem...

Some of those blogs actually started ranking for the keywords (the blogs were on domains with existing age/PR/backlinks).

Anyway, I changed all the DNS nameserver settings and now all the blogs are offline...the problem is that some of them are still showing up in Google searches...and the sites that I want to be ranked have not come back yet. Also, Yahoo is still recognizing all the backlinks even though the sites are deleted and the domains are parked.

If anyone has any advice I would GREATLY appreciate it.

This was a mistake someone with my experience (not that I'm an expert, but I know enough to know better) should have never made.

Thanks so much in advance,

Tommy

That's weird. I am no SEO expert but in an effort to bump this thread I will ask you - did you re-submit your site maps to Google?

      Thanks @adesbarats,

The thing about that is the sitemaps never changed for the sites that were ranking. This error involves backlinking from satellite blogs. I need to figure out a way to almost "unindex" all the pages that got index from those satellite blogs...

On the other hand, I may be overreacting haha I just have never experienced something like this and not sure what action to take next.

      Thanks for the bump,

      Tommy

The disappearance in rankings may have something to do with the age of satellite blogs...

Before you go making a bunch of changes I would just give it time. It's natural for rankings to ebb and flow. And after your site gets new backlinks, Google has to re-evaluate it.

Give it some time before you make changes.

Traffic Nodes -> Link Wheels -> now their called Satellite Blogs?

Uhmmm..how are we to ever keep up with morph terminology?

If it were me...I would put your system back up and keep building it. It is normal for Google to dance you around until they have decided where to place you. It usually always results in better placement but it also usually takes 2 to 4 weeks for it to settle in.

Your problem is not what you did wrong....it's in what you did Right. Give it a little more time.

They were called Satellite sites when the idea first appeared in the late 90's.. they weren't a good idea then and they ain't a good idea now (at least on a big scale).. maybe it's come full circle.

Tommy, it can take weeks at a time for you to see results.. take your time man, when making changes (any changes) step back for a few weeks and watch what happens before making another change.

    Tommy,

I bet those are fairly new sites, correct?

Were the satellite blogs themselves interlinked, traditional link wheel style, or did they simply point to the sites you were trying to promote?

I suggest that you put your site back exactly as it was, update it with some new content and resubmit the sitemap to Google and wait. You might also take a look at Google Webmaster Tools to see if that gives you any indication of what might have happened and when.

Sounds like a google dance to me. I would have left all alone for a week or two and then re-looked at it.

It will more than likely correct itself, its very difficult to cause yourself permanent Google damage with backlinking, though you can definitely cause some ranking fluctuation.

If they were newish sites that you were linking to, the rankings will fluctuate often quite dramatically in response to backlinking. I would agree with some of the comments made already that this means you are doing something right.

I've certainly experienced the same thing as you with sites disappearing for a while after a good round of backlinks.

Wait a month, focus on some other projects and check back again, it all should be fine.
