Help Me Understand RSS.XML

Hello Warriors,
I am in my second month of adsense and I would like to start using RSS feeds to backlink.
I understand very little about RSS, but I know my website creater creates a rss.xml file.
I have searched google and this forum and I have no idea what to do with this rss.xml file that comes with my webpage.
I would like to submit my rss to different sites for backlings, but I am stuck with these rss.xml files pondering what to do wtih them?
Can any of you adsense or RSS hotshots help an rss newb?
