Question for the SEO experts:

Since keywords in domain name is so important for page ranking, should location in some form be considered a keyword for local businesses?

    I've done a bit of testing with that and bottom-line, it will often hurt more than it helps.

    Your URL will look spammy and over optimized

    You will get more benefit from having a keyword optimized URL with on page optimization that ensures Google knows that your focusing on local search,

    #1 make sure you have the targeted countries TLD

    #2 make sure your server is hosted in your country and try to get even closer like state / province

    #3 have your local phone number and physical address on the footer of every page that you want indexed

    #4 Get incoming links to your site with your anchor text "localized" and that will make up for not having the long local spammy URL

    #5 Get some quality links from local sources, Local Newspaper, Chamber of Commerce, etc

    #6 Make Sure You Sign Up For The Local Maps With Google and Bing
