High Volume Of Traffic With Low CPC Approach?

I know people always talk about building AdSense sites that pay over X amount on CPC, but is anyone currently building a site that receives a ton of traffic per day (increases gradually each day), but only get about 3-5 cents per click?
For example, a lyrics site would be a perfect example of what I am talking about. Generally, this site would rank high for longtail keywords such as Singer Name + Song Name + Lyrics
You would have thousands and thousands of different singer names and song names so you get lots of traffic this way, but is anyone getting any success with this approach?
My site is increasing in traffic by 200-300 per day, and even just 50 cents increase per day on my earnings, I can see a lot of potential to this approach. Any thoughts?
