Question about domains just 'sitting' on the net

Hi Guys

Thanks for anyone that helped me with the 10 year old domain question and leading on from that I have another.

I am not too sure of some of the lingo with regards to certain things about SEO and websites.

Someone told me that a 10 year old domain wouldnt be that much use if it was 'parked' for those 10 years.

My question is I have many domains that are just 'sitting' on the interent.

I have loaded them onto my server, given them a profile and now if you type in the domain name in the browser I get a blank page which has 3 links on it, cgi, images, and postinfo.html.

Now is this a parked domain? Is this not any better than a domain that is sitting in 123 reg waiting to be bought?

Obviously I am going to add sites to them but as I have a project I am working on that needs all of my time I thought I would just get them on the net and let them sit.

Can anyone help me with this?

If it has content and comes up, it's not technically parked.
A true "parked" domain would have nothing associated with
it to be seen on the web.

There are other versions of "parked" domains. Like what you
are doing. Calling it parked because it's undeveloped.

You can forward the domains, still leave em parked.

It sounds as if you are in no hurry to use them, and have
paid for them for a long time.

Why not let them go or sell them?

I think domain "age" is more related to being published online, not
officially parked. A few links on the page means it has been getting age.

A parked domain typically refers to a domain that only has advertising on it, and it exist for those people that might stumble across it and click on an ad.

There are many services that will manage your parked domains. One such place is namedrive.com. You register with them, add your inactive domains to your account, and point your domains at their servers and they will put advertising on your site and you'll get paid if someone clicks on the ads.

It's not a parked domain if it doesn't have advertising on it. I don't think it makes a difference whether you have those links on it or not. If it's not indexed by search engines, it doesn't matter what you have on it. Those domains are basically brand new because they aren't indexed with content. The registration age doesn't matter if it was never picked up by search engines. You should have a coming soon page on them and get a few links to it so it gets indexed.

  • With domains that are sitting with future plans to develop I like to create an information page entailing options and features that are or will be available at a later time via the domain.

I also include a basic sign up form for interested parties to receive notifications. Why not start building your list of interested parties right from the concept stage.
