I am setting up a site and just wanted to know if there is a generally agreed upon format that is most effective?

From what I've read in blogs and forums, I keep seeing that the large rectangle, medium rectangle, and the square ad blocks are the best. I read they get more CTR. I don't know if this is true or not? I am still in the process of starting to make my first site, so I haven't tested it or anything. Basically the literature is saying to not use the leader boards, because people tend to not click on those ads. These type of ads look like banners and therefore people are conditioned to look away from banners. Anyway, keep us posted on what works for you!

    Thanks.

I am agree with 336 X 280 and 300 X 250 but for me skyscraper always sucks and I simply hate this. Thats why I am plannig to change it. For me 336 X 280 is always best.

Yes, always test when you have enough traffic.

Sometimes link units do better for me than ad units on some pages...sometimes not.

I for one have not had success with the image ads. Also, never choose the default of image or text. Always choose one or the other for that channel so you can test well.

The most important format is to test your format.

It will be different for your website.

Test and test and test again and use channels to compare effectiveness.

      Hi Marhelper,

There is no generally agreed upon format that works best. The fact is, it's different with every website and it changes over time.

It's best to test different formats and keep which ever one works best on your website.

You are the only person who can answer that question. Let us know what you learn!

It all depends on your website configuration but the best that i know is the 336 x 280. A 160 x 600 on the left pnel can be a good one

The 1 large adblock has always been my best performer, but I've
recently been changing things up based on seeing how many
people are getting their sites disabled for having the block under a
    header.

My changes have been wrapping the small block (250 x 250) to the
right of the text, and using 2 blocks (one on top of another), much
    like ezinearticles.com has it.

Great CTR so far, but slightly less earnings per click because of the
    2 extra ads.

It really is trial and error as I have changed things recently and it didnt work out. If I can give you one word of advice.....dont panic if your adsense revenue decreases when you try a few things out...
PR: wait... I: wait... L: wait... LD: wait... I: wait...wait... C: wait... SD: wait...
