I heard backlinking from one WPsite to the next can hurt you?

Hey Warriors,

One of my students brought up and interesting question that I didn't know the answer to.

I was teaching my Grand Slam Marketing Super Affiliate Tactic

It's basically 4 other WPsites(feeder sites) all churning out content backlinking to each other and the main money site.

different domains with main keyword

She said she heard that if you are doing this using the same IP address and hosting that Google will penalize you for the backlinking.

Now maybe I have never had a problem because I do outsource all the developing and have 3 different hosting accounts that I even;y use.

So if this indeed will hurt my students results I want to make sure I tell the the right way so they maximize their traffic.

I heard their was some loophole. Any feedback will be great my friends. Thanks

Google does not think that way. Relax. You have nothing
to worry about. In fact, make it a teachable moment.
Point out sites like gasbuddy.com, wikipedia.org, etc.
There are numerous threads here on the subject.

What google looks for is people shmoozing google results.
If that's not what you are doing, nothing bad is going to
    happen, except normal fluctuations.

If you are doing bad things, no matter how many IPs you have,
well, the key is bad things.

In fact, a little know secret is that people have high PR sites
and backlink from them. Perfectly normal, natural, and maybe
the number one way of getting great backlinks.

You should also point out subdomians. Subdomains are considered
    separate domains. What then?

When you start thinking of how to fool search engines with tricks,
like different IPs, you are looking for trouble. But I get exhausted
    talking about it.

Your topic comes up regularly here. I have many domains, squidoos,
etc. All on the same IP. All interlinked ginormously. And yes, many,
first page, some #1. There's this little thing called reputation.
(that is, all my domains are one IP, all our squidoos are one IP, etc.)

If the sites have at least some stand alone value, no problem.
Even if they were almost mirror images, like all of gasbuddy.com's stuff.
You have to be doing something nefarious. But it would be the "nefarious"
    stuff, not the same IP.

Funny thing, the big names have bought tons of misspellings of their domains,
and host them on the same server, and point them all to the main domain.

Somebody may bring up class c. Well, last time I checked, amazon class A,
warriorforum class B, wikipedia class C, and who knows what is using class D,
    and now class E.

Google doesn't penalize sites for backlinks.....that doesn't even make any sense....anyone can backlink to someone elses site and Google knows that....the worse thing that would happen is they would penalize that link in their algorithm for your site....your site will not change one way or the other if the link is deemed spam. Now that is not to say that the link isn't penalized....if deemed spam it is just tossed out of the mix for your site....

Think of it another way...if Google would penalize a site for a shady backlink what would keep me from just giving the gift of a few thousand links to my competition in one day to have Google drop them in the SERPS?

      Make sense?

That's a good point and I'd agree with 99.99% of it. There is a slight, ever so
slight chance, that spamming, true spamming, can somehow effect one's
ranking and indexing. It's hard to come up a scenario of just simple
spamming links that gets a true penalty. The penalty has to be in conjunction
with the whole spirit (for lack of a better word) of the person's site and effort.

So I can't argue with someone that says spamming hurts. Google does have ways of
de-indexing sites. And that's really the only penalty I would ever worry about.

Paul that is great feedback and in no way am I trying to do anything black hat. In the video I made there were some SEO "guru's" who posted comments that I need to respond to. I know you know your stuff and I always follow your advice in other threads so this is a big help and a wipe of the brow because here I am thinking I was left out of the loop on Google latest algorithm change

What I actually do Paul is create 4 other WP sites all with main keyword in domain and create great content 2% keyword density and sprinkle with LSI all licking back to each other and main money site not such much for backlinks but for traffic. I also create squidoo, blogger, hub pages wikispaces to backlik to feeder sites and main site.

So thats good to hear I'm doing it right still, I mean I conquer the search engines this way

    Thanks again Paul

I heard google will penalizr you if you make lot of llink build by spamming, connect to irrelevant sites, also buy link.
They don't say same IP will hurt.
As long the link is from relevant sites, it will bring good things to your linked site
