One way to get lots of backlinks

Its an accepted fact that in order to get ranked in the search engines you need keyword rich anchor text linking back to your money site. Most marketers do this by writing articles which they then submit to web 2.0 properties in exchange for a backlink or two.

Apart from using the web 2.0 sites, it can be difficult to get backlinks from other webmasters. One way that I have found to be effective is to develop a free Wordpress theme (with your keyword rich anchor text in the footer, linking back to your site) and submit it to all the free Wordpress theme directories.

You don't need to be a coder to create a wordpress theme, you can cheaply outsource this. Once you have your theme, you can submit it to the various free Wordpress theme websites on condition that your link remains intact. Everyone and their dog has a blog nowadays, and a decent free Wordpress theme has the potential to bring your site loads of backlinks.

    You are absolutely right.

I think the key is to have a nice theme created that appeals to the niche of the site you are trying to get the links to.

For instance, If I run a weight loss site, I want to create a weight loss theme and add that link to that particular theme.

Creating plugins and widgets can do this for you too.

They work pretty well but you need to watch for a few things when doing it.

    1. What type of theme is it you dont want some warze site ect. other negative site to be backlinking to you

    2. Finding a popular theme/ there are hundreds of new themes going up every day its possible your theme you just spend $50 on to link on wont even be used.

      Good points.

I think if you go down the route of developing/have developed your own WP theme for the purpose of backlinks then you have to tightly theme it. The more generic the theme then the less control you have over the type of site you have linking back to you. Having said that, someone running a warez site is not likely to adhere to your wishes that they don't remove the footer links.

I myself went down this route as I couldnt find a nice WP theme for a golf blog. The free themes I looked at were either not visually suitable, or had a layout that I didn't like. I wanted a simple 2 column layout which was visually appealing and fast loading. If you get a theme developed as per the standards by which you would want a theme to look like then the chances are lots of other people will like it too.

  • I would also encrypt your footer or request your developer to encrypt it. It's one way to ensure the majority of people who download your template don't just delete your links.

Backlinks FROM "dodgy websites" to your own cannot hurt you because you have no control over who links to you.

There are two problems with this approach

First is if you use an anchor text for your site, it may look spammy and people may remove it.

Second is you may end up getting links from bad neighborhood. Imagine your theme being used by a gambling, porno or drug site !

With this approach you are kind of dependent on the good will of people to not remove your footer link, so yes, you do have a good point there. Its important to make the site you are linking back to not to look spammy. I think this depends a lot on your niche - IM sites may look spammy, but a dog training site may not. You would need to think about what you would be happy with a free blog theme that you were using for one of your own sites..

Regarding your second point, if your theme is focused on a specific niche it would be more difficult for the sort of site you refer to to use it in a way that would result in a bad neighbourhood backlink.

Yes, That's true.! Another issue is - most of the webmasters (are like me - lol) remove the links. They know these stuff and they place their own links. Personally, I have created more than 30 blogs (both free and own blogs - and most of the times I've placed my own links there - I know its a copyright violation, but I think if we ask some one about this, they must be telling this 'who cares')!

Thats also true, but you should also be aware that the sort of people who are technically skilled enough to create their own blog themes also have the skills to track who is removing their links from the footer and (for example) posting the stuff you advertise in your sig on warez forums.

        Just saying...

    1. Anyone with an ounce of knowledge just removes the footer links.
    2. You can't e penalized for a few "unsavoury" links back to you.

I don't think this tip is good. Many people can remove your text link.
    Any ways, thanks for posting

To get one way links, this technique is good. But many cant do this as they are not designers. And secondly many people remove links and use the templates for their business..
