Just as the title says. What's a decent click rate for AdSense?

Edit: Title is supposed to say "experts", obviously.

  • Anything above 5% is good; higher than 10% is great.

    • Woohoo that means I'm extra great
  • I would say 10-20 % is pretty good. Over 20% is excellent. I have some sites that are consistantly at 40% +, some that wallow at 5%, which I will discard at renewal time. Niche, keyword and ad relevancy are all major deciders on this, the template less so IMHO. Cluttered is bad though !

    • You can get even greater ctr if you sort by ad group and have 2 adwords accounts. aim me.
    • If the 5%'ers (your websites which have about 5% CTR) is earning them selfes in, why discard them?

I mean... This is a common mistake IMO... The hosting costs maybe $10 per year.. And the site is earning $10 per month.. Why discard it? I mean.. At the paper your site will earn 10x the amount it costs to keep it running?

I don't know your sites - it COULD be that they are NOT earning them selfes in.. But if they are.. Then why not let them run? if the profit is $20 per year - then it's okay, as long as you don't have to keep posting content! Let it earn as much as you can.

  • I'm at 0.57% in June and this has been a bad month. I like to be at around 1%
  • You need to address this question to a specific niche market.

Some people get 22% CTR, others get 2%, same market, 2 different sites in top 5.

    But as troy said:

  • For those guys with > 5% CTR - Well done, good work!

Do you find the Ad. Position makes much difference?

I'm bidding on position #3 at the moment for many keywords - do you find bidding for #1 is worth the money??
  • It depends on the market. Try getting good clicks in the tech-savvy market where geeks stopped clicking on AdSense ads in '04.
  • Normally real estate market and finance market have big competition for adwords.
  • 5 to 8 percent is good
  • It is all about the design/theme you are using for your website. Its how you structure your ads with the content. Test, Test, and Test some more.

Currently I average between 8-14% Click through rates using my own custom made theme for my niche sites.

Click through rate differs depending on the niche you are in.
