I've used it but I think I am looking for something a little more robust...

I'll be honest with you here, I've tested them all as they've been released, and you just can't get more relevant data than by using Google's keyword tool.

In one way or another, those tools skew results that you can manually research on your own. Keyword research and competition are definitely two of the most important parts of your business online. I wouldn't leave it to a tool that pulls data directly from Google's own API, just to provide results that don't match what you can find in Google's tool yourself.

If you do your keyword research correctly, and understand how to measure competition, then Google's keyword tool is the way to go. You'll be disappointed if you allow these tools to do it for you - in terms of both traffic and competition levels for the keywords.

With the right settings, I've found that Google provides much more precise results for keyword traffic than any other source that I've tested. Google's old tool incorporated additional data that inflated results (which you had to compensate for), but since their update last year, I find that it is extremely reliable in terms of traffic data - other data was always fairly accurate.

Some tools may indicate competition levels, but in most cases they are either extremely limiting (giving you a 'go' indicator or 'no' indicator), or they just aren't correct. You don't have to pass up on keywords that have some competition just because a tool tells you to. Learn how to judge competition yourself, and to understand the costs involved in ranking that keyword, or targeting it for promotion.

When you are using Google, you have several resources that you can tap into, such as the keyword tool, the wonder wheel, Google trends, insights, search engine, and others. They can all be reached and used efficiently when you come up with a standardized process for your research.

I certainly have nothing against using tools to discover keywords, or to compose lists and other general data. But, before you decide to use that data, manually research them in Google yourself.

I know there are product owners here that have such tools, but this my opinion, and after years of building and ranking sites, and promoting offers, my experiences have brought me here.

If you want to get the most accurate data for your keywords, then obtain it from the source.
