If you constantly check your rankings on Google to site where your site is ranked, you may want to consider an alternative called "Scroogle."

Google likes to keep your search results as personalized as possible. Therefore, if you constantly visit your own site, and then check to see where it's ranked, Google will store your cookies and rank your website higher because it knows you like your site.

Scroogle gives you more accurate search results because it does not store your cookies in this manner.

Good luck,

I've never heard of that, pretty cool. How often do you check your rankings though? I'd think that once a week wouldn't affect much.

Or you can run in IE or FireFox's private session.

There are some other anon Google search engines but I don't want them to get flooded. If you look hard you can find them

Excellent Tip.... I've been using Chrome for months and loving it. I was worried about the future of Scroogle , at least there is aback up measure with google chrome if we can't get our scroogle scraper back.

I just went into my cookies in Firefox and typed in Google.com and found a whole slew of cookies. So I deleted them all but my Google AdWords cookies as they probably are storing my password and user name.

It's a lot easier to just turn the personal search feature OFF/ON here:

As long as you don't click your own site through google results, it won't adjust its rankings in your personalised SERPs. I click other unrelated sites that I visit a lot through it though because it's just so easy to key it in and there it id.
