  • It doesn't make any difference for me. I have backlinks with either way and it gets to my sites.

    • Hi reynoldscorb,

Yes, it make a big difference in SEO. There are many ways to deal with canonicalization issues. This video should help you out: YouTube - Canonical Link Element
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • I would recommend building with either www or not www you can also go to google webmaster tools and assign a main one and they will make all act that way.. Otherwise it treats the one as a subdomain. I hope that make sense. The video will help you as well i figure.
  • Depends on what kind of site you have. If it is a wordpress blog you can just go into your admin and change it.

It does not matter which one you choose. The important thing is to choose one and then be consistent.

  • I don't think it really matters, just matters on how high those individual pages rank. You can get them ranking higher by advertising and generating traffic to your site. With backlinks in place, it's only a matter of time until Search Engines pick up the content and ranking.
  • Personally I think Google is good at realising www and non-www are the same URL. To make sure they know, just set up a webmaster tools account and use the option in there.

    • Hi jazbo,

Yes, they obviously realize that the URLs usually resolve to the same document. They also realize that it may not be the same and therefore they must treat them as different. The search engines talk a lot about this issue and they always emphasize that it is a significant problem for search engines.

As a webmaster we should know that the SEO benefits of linking, both internal and external can be severely diluted by canonical issues. In my opinion it would be unwise to dismiss this as trivial.
  • It doesn't difference if you using redirect the www to none www or opposite. If not, it will make the difference about page rank, search engune ranking result ...

  • if you use either of the url's it'll land you at the same site..but in counting links its 2 different thing, so its much better to choose which url you want to stick with...you can use 301 redirect
  • Yes,it really matters. Search engines may consider them as two different sites. You can redirect the non-www version to www version of the website in order to avoid canonical issues in the website.
  • yes www is very effective for your sites , you should use that.

    • Use any one www or simply site.com always use it to link back to your site.
  • Yeah..If you're into link building. Canonicalization is the right term here. A page that is indexed as http://example.html/article/post.php considered to be duplicated if the page also has http://www.example.html/article/post.php,.
  • There is lots of difference as said by canonicalization issues that is stated in the videos

    • Very small effect may be on your site. But if your site open without www then it is not affected. Use 301 redirection, to solve this.
