DAILY Searches = 73,000; Competition = 7,800

These are exact searches. And both the broad and phrase searches equals the exact searches number.

I used Market Samurai to get these figures. I confirmed it with the Google Keywords tool and it confirmed. I checked both everyday for this keyword because I thought it was a result of a data error. But I got the same numbers every single time.

Have there been instances where bots are responsible for searches? This has to be the widest discrepancy between searches and competition that I have ever seen.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this?
#800 #competition #daily #searches

It really goes down to HOW powerful those 7,800 websites are. A low competition in Google is not an exact match of how difficult is to rank for a certain keyword. It really goes down to the 10 people in the first page.

But anyway, it looks like you hit on something BIG. Better work your arse off and make some money out of it

    Jonas Iri is right.

Have you looked at the first page of results on google?

They could all have a high page rank and thousands of quality backlinks and be big authority sites.

In other words, getting on the first page could be extremely difficult. It could take months and months and months (i think you get the picture) of extremely hard work.

Thats why i never ever look at the "number of competing sites". I alsways go straight to the first page of results in google and see what that competition is like, afterall, the first page and first page only, is where you want to be, right?

    SEOTCR = Title Competion

This means the value of competition of all indexed pages "where the key phrase appears, unbroken, in the META title".

This value is probably not very relevant to what you're considering here. Better to look just at SEOC if you want competition numbers. But remember that market samurai by default is looking a broad search not exact match so those number are a little skewed and you'll need to make some assumptions after following the advice already given about checking out the top 10.

Use the SEO Competition tool inside market samurai, then run a PR and Anchor text analysis. This will give you a much better indication of what it will take to compete. If you see thousands of keyword rich anchor text coming from PR5+ sites then you have a serious challenge on your hands. But if you see a bulk of the links coming from PR3 or less, and the anchor text is horrible then you might have struck gold.

You need to look at all your numbers from different views to speculate effectively but also looking at the "right" numbers is important here too. You have the tools for the job, just learn how to get the most out of it.

So far, I only have the free version of Market Samurai so all I have is their keyword search but I don't have the competitor analysis tool. But I went to Opensiteexploret dot org (which I entered thru seomoz) and they have this tool about link popularity and back links with data on these criteria:

Page Authority: "Predicts this page's ranking potential in the search engines based on an algorithmic combination of all link metrics. Page Authority scores are on a 100-point, logarithmic scale."

Domain Authority: "Predicts this domain's ranking potential in the search engines based on an algorithmic combination of all link metrics. Domain Authority scores are on a 100-point, logarithmic scale."

Linking Root Domains: "Number of unique root domains (e.g. *.example.com) containing at least one linking page to this URL/domain."

Total Links: "All links to this page including internal, external, followed and no followed."

The number 1 site on Google for my key words has the following numbers:

      Page Authority: 6/100
      Domain Authority: 59/100
      Link Root Domains: 1
      Total Links: 11

Can these numbers give clues as to the strength of the number 1 site for my keyword on Google?

I never even bother looking at the number of results returned when deciding whether to go after a keyword.

The only thing I'm worried about is how well optimized the top 5 pages are and whether the time it'll take me to rank for that keyword will be worth the income it will generate.

    Looks like a hot niche.

BUT as already stated check out the first page of search results(competition) before doing anything.
I found a promising niche too, build a blog, optimized it just to find out that the first page of search results is peppered with PR5 sites and now I'm stuck.

Well it does sound like you might have struck gold here. mgtarheels has offered to run an analysis for you, but if you'd like me to put it through market samurai as well just shoot me a PM.
