How advanced does your keyword research go?

It can get really deep and you can end up with graphs, excel spreadsheets all over the place but how advanced to you go?

I find it depends on the site I make..and the niche but do you have a formula you apply to everything ?

    just some basic factors like broad match, exact match, inurl, intitle
    competitors keywords

    and GA data
