Dump My Pr 3 For a New Site? Help!

I have a PR 3 site in a pet care niche that is ranked for some easy terms and makes sales every few days. However, I want to target some bigger terms in that niche that this not-so-optimized-for-those-terms hyphenated .info domain might not be able to handle.

Is it that crazy to just let this site be and start a new one for the bigger keywords? I feel like I could create a more professional and better optimized authority site with an exact match .org for those bigger search terms. Does this sound like an alright plan to you? I guess I just want the nod of approval for starting a new site rather than trying to completely rework the .info

P.S. And given the competition, I'm pretty confident I can get a new site ranking for the bigger terms pretty easily and quickly.

I would set up the other site, maybe link the new site to it? Maybe redirect the old site to the new one.

I wouldnt just get rid of the old site, 2 sites is better than one surely?

But won't a 301 redirect make me lose my old rankings because the listing will redirect to a different site? A 301 redirect doesn't transfer PR or backlinks, does it?

You'd lose your rankings, but you'd keep your PR.

I did the same thing a while back, a site I had that unexpectedly kinda started working, and I didn't like the domain name - I just simply changed it and forwarded the old domain to the new site with a 301 redirect (as mentioned by Micheal) - it took Google a few weeks to sort out the links and stuff but in the end it worked out well and my rankings stayed in tact - I was really nervous about doing that but it worked out and now I don't get so worried about such things anymore - I'm not sure exactly how PR is transferred but the site had been a PR 2 at the time of the switch and I didn't lose it at all after switching to the new domain name

hello my friend if i where you keep the old site and start a new site, if it making sales every few days then let it be, you can do the same with a new keyword, if your making sales with this one you will with the next one my friend. if you need any help just drop me a line my friend bezzer brown

I suggest building a new site with the new keyword rich domain name. Keep the other site you have currently. Work on both of them. In the end you will have two different sites that will both have their own authority within the same niche.
