Google finding backlinks

Hey all, I've been wondering about what kink of experience everyone has had with building back links and having Google find them. Is it just me, or does Yahoo find a lot more back links a lot faster?

  • How do you know Google is not finding them? Google will not list most of your backlinks when you do a links: search. They do this on purpose.

    The best thing to do when building your links is to use a unique username or phrase that you can search for. You can then do a search for that unique word and see how many of the pages with your backlinks are actually indexed.

  • Google does not show all the back links while Yahoo show all the back links of your sites. But don't think Google not find all back links, if you have a Google Webmaster Tool for your website you can check all the back links of your website from there.

    • As Tom has said this is not the case. Your webmaster tools will show more backlinks then you will find with a regular search but you will still only see a percentage of the ones indexed.

  • Yeah, you can bet that Google finds them before Yahoo. Googlebot is the first on the scene in almost every situation. Googlebot is fast, he's like a crackhead-bot.
