I was wondering if anyone else noticed that when you create a new post/page on a website you will usually see it obtain rather high SERP placement for a few days then it slowly trickles back and sometimes way back like over position 200.

I'd like to know what kind of strategies people are using when creating a new page/post to get it to stick better?

Do you just write the page, and submit it to some sites like Digg and then move on or what have you found to work?

What you are describing is called a novelty boost. I think that the logic behind is that Google (1) wants people to be able to find the latest content on a particular subject, and also give that content a change and measure it's relevance (via its CTR or clickthrough rate). Sometimes you see a page being boosted to a reasonably high position, and then continuing to rise more slowly (very likely because it has a high CTR).

To make your pages "stick" better,
    1. write relevant, enticing titles and descriptions that result in more people clicking through
    2. build quality links to those pages

I hope this helps a bit!
