Wordpress or Basic HTML site?

Hi, I am going to have a new website for regular posting.
Target is adsense revenue. What do you prefer from point of view of SEO.

Should I setup wordpress site or a html site?
I do not want to use php, asp etc.

  • Wordpress.
    It's much easier to use and there is a plugin for just about anything you could want. You can even make it look like a basic HTML if you hate the blog look.

  • I am not a website expert but I will choose wordpress...It has many SEO Plugin to ease your SEO Process...you can start from All-in-One SEO. Of course HTML can do this manually but wordpress ease everything.hope this helps

    • For ease of use Wordpress all the way. However if you want ultimate control over design I recommend HTML. Wordpress is a real pain to customize. So it really depends on what you want more of - ease of use or control.

  • Wordpress has lots of extremely customizable themes. Try SWIFT theme. I started using it on all of my blogs...it's amazingly customizable.

  • I have some HTML sites and some WordPress sites. For me, I feel I have more control on the layout of things using HTML (or using Dreamweaver specifically), but with WordPress I can update things much quicker and more "automatically". Plus, with WordPress there's all those plug-ins that can help out with various things.

    So, if I'm making a small site that I don't plan to add a lot of pages, I'll usually do it as a static site in HTML. If I'll be posting on an ongoing basis, then WordPress makes that process quicker and easier, so I would likely choose that format.

    As far as SEO, the biggest difference I find is that if I add an HTML page to a site, it can take several days or more than a week for it to get into Google's index. My WordPress sites, adding a post typically takes just minutes or a few hours to get indexed.

    • For SEO purposes, it's not really going to matter which you use, both work fine (or badly) depending on what you do in terms of site layout and external links.

      If you're planning on adding/updating content often or doing certain kinds of automation, using a CMS system like WordPress is a big help. As a programmer, I've written my own CMS systems that I use but I do keep coming back to WP since it's a well designed framework with loads of external support and additions.
  • I followed the adsense coaching class from Zeus66 who teaches it with the use of html-templates. Because I love WordPress myself, I decided to do some testing. I bought two domain names with the same keyword, one a .com and the other .net. On the .com I used the html template on the .net I used WordPress, with a simple theme, perfect for this kind of sites.

    I have a reseller hosting account, and was lucky enough to have a few accounts with different IP address, so I set up both on a different IP. Then I followed the same steps for each, the only difference was that I used html for one and WP for the other (with a few basic plugins, like AIOSEO). I did the same kind of promotion for both.

    As soon as the sites were indexed, the .com (html) was in the lead, so I though that that would be the winner. But I was wrong. I didn't promote any of the sites anymore, but in the end, it's the WordPress one that is on page 1 and the html site that is on page 2. I'll be doing more tests in the near future about this, but for now, WordPress will still be my number 1 until it proofs otherwise.

  • I use Wordpress over basic html websites. They are much easier to manage in the long run.

    Leslie, thats a great test you made. However I wouldn't recommend making a decision off of two websites. There is a lot of things that goes into ranking websites in the search engines. Each keyword differs from the other. I have had many websites, all of which are wordpress, that end up ranking at page one, and some at page two or three upon being indexed, and all of them have gone through the same seo process. Why? Because each keyword differs in the amount of competition it holds at the time.
  • I'm planning on doing more tests, this was just my first. I'll be creating more sites in html to see how they go. I'm not sure if I'll be using the same keyword and test them like I did this time (I have to be lucky to find two domains available in that case) but I will be doing more tests to see how I do with html sites in general. The thing is, even when the results are close together, which I think will be the end result (as you say, it depends on keywords too) WordPress still is the one that is easily updated, at least that's how I feel about it. I'm certain that people who are used to working with html will feel that html is easier for them.

    As you said you are going to do Adsense site...then I suggest Wordpress with simple
    theme...

    One draw back i experience sometime with Wordpress site is that you can not test
    Split testing that easily...it is too hard and complicated to setup codes on those
    dynamic pages...

    • I wouldn't normally post on this topic since there are so many pros for using WordPress. However, since you will be monetizing with AdSense, I do feel it's worth commenting on something I've been observing over the past year or so.

      Please take this as only an observation of my own sites. I'm sure many others on the forum will dispute this.

      I have sites with only WordPress, some with only static HTML and some with a combination of the two. I'm going to comment on those with a combination and that are monetized with AdSense.

      In tracking AdSense clicks on both the WP blogs and the static HTML pages on the same sites, the static HTML pages seem to serve up ads with higher eCPM's. That is to say my per click revenue is higher on my static HTML pages than on my WordPress pages.

      Strange, I know. But, it does seem to be fairly consistent over the past year.

      Take it for what it's worth.
  • Setup wordpress because its quite easy to update and also Search Engine index it quick...

  • wordpress vs Html is not fight, wordpress is like html but more easy to update the content.
    but you can make wordpress site on localhost then down it to html (wordpress2html) with soft for that.
    and upload to the host the html static wordpress.
    then you get wordpress html :-)

  • I have to say that wordpress is so easy to use and with all the plug-ins including the all-in-one SEO plugin makes life a lot easier than doing it manually with HTML. Just remember to back-up and download you database regularly so you don't lose your site to unforeseen problems.
