Hi guys,

At what point do you guys think its important to get C-Class ip hosting ? Can you tell me exactly why and where is the best place to get it cheap ?

I have around 13 adsense sites now and wondered if getting c class hosting might be a good idea or should i just keep building adsense site using my baby hostgator account ?

Cheers Jim

    Hey Jim,

From what I understand about c-class IPs, you don't need them if you're not inter-linking your websites. The reason people use different c-class IPs for their websites is because they want to pass on seo benifits to their other sites without their network being detected as a "blog farm or link farm".

This is just my opinion though and could well be outright wrong.

It's not really needed so much now given how many domains are hosted on shared IPs. 5-10 years ago, it was a better indicator of nefarious intent to the search engines but today, with the IP address shortage and steps taken to combat it along with trends in cloud computing and increases server cluster size, it isn't as big a factor, if it is one at all.

It is important though to have some diversity in hosting plans and geographic location of your hosting. This will shield you against a hosting company suddenly going out of business, a host IP being blacklisted for spamming, a natural disaster, act of war/terrorism or the like. That way, if you lose one location you can get back up and running quickly at your alternative hosting site.

    Depends mainly on 3 things:

    1) Are sites on related topics, i.e. keyword overlap?
    2) Do all sites get inbound links from similar sources?
    3) Are you looking to increase rankings by interlinking your own network?

If you answer yes to any of those then its worth considering. If you answer yes to all of those then it is a good idea if you know what you are doing.

Ditto what webfighter says. If you marketing plan includes building multiple (dozens or even hundreds or thousands of sites) and then interlinking them, you need the sites to be on different class C IPs, otherwise the interlinking is too easy to detect.

I'm sure there are individuals out there having success with link farms, but it's tough today because Google is so good at detecting patterns.

Another thing: Google is a registrar. They can see the registration info on each adn every web site. Do they use this? Dunno. But even if you have 50 different IPs, if they are all registered to the same name, that's pretty easy to detect.

This is why I use WhoisGuard on all my low quality domains.

these guys are def my favorite seo hosting company..
    Go Pro with SEO Hosting

had a bad experience with another... and like others have said, unless you're doing it for a link juice/backlink network, seo hosting might not be required.

I looked into these guys but found out there was some footprints left that seohosting.com didn't leave. Something to do with subnets. If you ask seohosting.com sales they will show you, I am rubbish with networking so can't remember exactly what it was as it was some months ago.

Multiple class C hosting isn't cheap and if you are not totally sure how it works and why you need it then I would advise you stay away from it right now as it would just add extra expense.

Once you've got some results and a good grip of how everything works, use it as a way to take your network to the next level.

If you've got only 13 adsense sites and thinking of getting c-class hosting, forget it. I've got 20 adsense sites running on a shared hosting account with no problems. I limit my sites to 20-30 max before i get another shared hosting account. It's just my preference over getting a reseller account.

As Bgmacaw said, if you are doing nothing nefarious, have a good
reliable host, the point is moot. There are numerous, huge sites that
have hundreds of sites on the same IP. All in the same niche actually,
and all interlinked. When you start thinking class c as a way to fool
google, you are barking up the wrong tree. It has nothing to do
with how google ranks sites. People that normally preach class c
at the top of their lungs probably have a hand in the business.

If you think having multiple hosts is a way of shielding yourself from
google, then what are you doing??????

        Hi again Paul,

I would like to make a few wp blogs to send auto postings to so i can also add articles with my profile backlinks that haven`t been indexed. I was here posting about c class hosting because i really dont know much about it i have been reading a few pages in google but wanted to know what everybody here thought about it.

Also because i did want to build some wp blog sites that will be auto posted to and i am very careful what i do because i have worked very hard to get my adsense sites pulling in a nice amount along with a couple of bodybuilding supplements sites i`ve spent untold hours working on. The last thing i want to do is build a few auto blogs and get myself into trouble with google deindexing any of my sites, so thats it Paul i just want to build a few auto blogs i`m here just looking for information on c class hosting to protect my other sites

Definitely spread your sites across a few hosts.

Hosting is dirt cheap, and you don't want to risk all your sites and therefore all your income being dependent on one company.

Its not just about beating Google, its about reducing your risk exposure. I've heard cases where Warriors have their hosting hacked and all their sites go down.

Not cool, and when it can be prevented by taking out another hosting package for what, $80 a year? Then its a very cheap and very effective type of insurance.

I haven't tested the SEO effects of diversified hosting so I can't make a definitive claim, but from the perspective of risk mitigation it is a very good idea.

Just wanted to clarify something: every web hosting account has 'class C'. It's actually a term used to describe a portion of any IP address. In the example IP 192.168.50.129 the class C portion is '50'. Each segment corresponds to a number: A.B.C.D. The reasoning behing the requirement for different Class C's across a network of sites has been covered elsewhere in this thread, so I wont go over that again. Suffice it to say that IP addresses are considered more unique if the 'C' portion differs than if just the 'D' part.
