Hi,

I made a site which is now page 6 on google after I set it live about two weeks ago - maybe less. I have been doing lazy link building so i'm pretty happy where I am and it's given me confidence that I can get to number 1 spot.

Anything you would suggest to start climbing up?

Link building yes but anything else? Maybe add a blog and start using tags etc etc?

  • It is better if you have a blog, make sure you update your content regularly and dont build backlinks fast!
I have a question here:What backlinking strategies did you apply profile links, forum posting, press releases, articles ?

    • articles and added my link to my big website on the homepage..

Spent two weeks researching keyword though
  • To be honest thats a good start but you can do a lot better. You should vary your link strategy and start creating forum links, article syndication links, create blogs with content and anchor text pointing to your site, then build a lot of links to those.

You can get top rankings quickly in competitive niches if your aggressive with your seo work.

    • Yeah, I know i can do better.. gonna have a link building day 2moz

So, create blog posts and use internal linking to homepage? Is that what you meant?
  • Sorry yes thats exactly what I meant. Once you have keyword links pointing to your money site your creating a funnel you can drip juice from. Start off with 5 of these. If you can afford it, buy domains and start building up your own network.

    • i just wrote a blog post on it with the first few words pointing to my homepage.

I have also added the link to my other non-profit blog which i'm working on..

Guess i'm doing the right things I just have to be paient now

  • Open all your competitors back door and find all their high quality backlinks and repeat.

    • done that already which is why I picked that keyword..

The top guy is winning with about 200 backlinks mostly to directories

  • Get links from high PR sites in the beginning, it'll allow you to more quickly get past the "lazy" link building tactics and get much more aggressive earlier on with minimal dancing around.
  • Aside from anchor text, make sure you use http : / / Yourdomain. whatever also linking back to the site..

Use search status to find the no follow pages/links wouldn't waste time posting on no follow pages, although a few may not hurt..

Run a backlink checker on the # 1 ranking site, see where his links are coming from an perhaps capitalize..

After you create these links I would suggest pinging them or even better, create feeds using one of the many free html to rss converters...than post off of them feeds in social bookmarking sites..

Just a few tips, there plenty more..

    Good Luck!

    • Bookmark sites are helpful. Bookmark your site, and most of the articles and blogs that link to your site. Also cross-link your articles and blogs - that is, link from one article to another in your set. Then link from that article to another. Add some randomness to make it look natural. And don't forget on-site SEO. I really like WebCEO - the advice is excellent.

Google search "fix bic turntable" to see what I have done using mostly on-site SEO. The Helioza.com article is number 1. Same position for three other related terms.
    • Gotta disagree with you on this one, NYC.

The "rel=nofollow" attribute only effects the passing of PageRank, which is useless anyway when talking about seo. I have plenty of sites with a PR of 0 or 1 outranking PR5 and 6 sites in the serps.

If you have a site about weight loss and you get a nofollow link with "weight loss" as the anchor text, its just as good as a dofollow with the same anchor text, at least in terms of ranking for the term "weight loss" in your serps.

      Peace

  • Any on page SEO benefit I have seen personally is minimal to nothing. I'd just concentrate on making your site the best experience for a human being and worry about the SEO stuff offsite. This way all those clicks that the SEO gives you will bring people to a site they really like.

    • Thanks guys..

Wrote another 2 articles this morning and saw that the last time google cached my site was 30th june.. This was when I had only built half the front page without all my pages.. hopefully should get a big boost when they visit it next..

Just checked yahoo and i'm 1st for one site (same age) and one the first page for the same site I was talking about

      Yay! Now to check bing

      I guess thesis works
  • I know they have value. I took a site in a very small niche from page "Oblivion" to page 1 position 1 using only nofollow blog comments, and that was for about 15 keywords......they rank #1 for all 15 keywords.

    Peace
  • lol that's true
  • Starting with a blog should be just fine. Must be a very specific niche considering that not only you get indexed very fast you are also on page 6 of the SERPs. You should really leverage on that. As for SEO tactics and stuff, I recommend starting with the people who invented (or reinvented) the thing Here are some information I totall recommend you reading. They are downloadable and you can read it at your own pace. Don't worry they are free as they are provided by Google themselves. Please go to seoformoney dot com and look for the Google Starter Guide and Google Report Card. Hope this helps.

  • Congrats on getting fist page. But make sure you build links continuously. More over you may face ranking up-down since domain is new.

    • Yup, I wrote 2 articles 2day and have 50 directory submissions left to go with another 40 in a queue.
  • Congrats with good link building and great content you would be on #1 in no time.
