Looking for a tool that does best Keyword "competition" analysis. I use Market Samarui to do KW Research but I want to tool to tell me if a certian keyword has too much competition in the top ten to pursue. I heard SENuke has this feature, and has three levels of "easy", "medium" and "Difficult". But I really don't to pay $127 a month just to use this feature.

I've also used Market Samurai for a while and recently picked up Micro Niche Finder for exactly what you're describing. It gives a numeric rating to the strength of the competition for a particular keyword. It is also much cheaper than SENuke at $99 one-time fee (or maybe expires after 2 years, I don't remember).

I use keyword elite and it is very good with competition analysis not only does it show you competition strength it also lists the top ten sites for that keyword then gives you averages for number of keywords, keyword density, lists if they use the keyword in their title and description tags and so many other stats.

I do have MNF, and now recall it does give the SOC number (when it works that is)

SENUKE use the below command to find the competition:

    allintitle:"your keyword"

Using the above command SENUKE provides result as follows:

If it is < 1000 then Easy
If it is <2000 then Midium
If it is >2000 then Difficult

So, you can check this command in Google itself and no need to spend $127 for this. However to find out real competition this method is not appropriate in all cases.

    Regards,
    Chandan

Hey man, just made a video to show you how I do it. Nothing will give you a more true estimate on the competitiveness of a keyword than our algorithm:

    TechSmith | Screencast.com, online video sharing, 2010-07-13_1919

The volume on my mic was turned WAY up, so make sure your speakers aren't blasting or it's gonna hurt your ears :-)

    Good luck.

I find that most of the tools I've used can be misleading. I prefer to manually scan the first page of Google with SEO Quake which is a Firefox add-on and you can find out almost everything you need to know.

A lot of people try to use these search queries such as searching for your keyword phrase "in quotes" and looking at the number that comes up or some other silly tricks but these are flawed and don't always work.

Whether you have 5,892,536,238 competing results or 500 competing results, all you really need to worry about is the first 10 on the first page. Nothing else is going to matter.

Check how many backlinks they have and how strong/relevant they are, if they use the keyword in the title and URL, the PR of the site, etc.

Yep, exactly. Our algorithm automatically does all of the manual searching etc. that smart seo's would do, and compiles it into 1 number that's easy to understand.

I use Market Samurai and find its competition analysis tools more than adequate for what you want. I have recently also bought Micro Niche Finder and thinking to cancel, as the traffic light indicator you are looking for is not reliable. I can get good niches in MS and Google Adwords, and WebCompAnalyst but then MNF gives a high competition warning (Red) and reports millions of inAnchor, etc... Not good.

I suggest you view the MS videos at the MS Dojo site and give it a little more time. It does take time to sink in, and when it does, I am sure you will find MS is more that able to satisfy your needs. No, I am not an affilitate for MS.
