Hi at all,

I need some help or advice for a new side-projekt of mine and I hope that somebody can help me or know any good resources (links etc.) where i can find help.

I have a Joomla based website/blog and I want to ad a Forum to this website. So that I could get more traffic, sell more products and enhance the features of my site for the people which are coming to the site. The problem is I never done this before and so i have no expirence which steps I should take for a good Search Engine Optimazation of my Website.

1. The first question which comes up is: What software should I use to host this forum?
Right now I would consider the vBulletin Software as the best, but maybe a more expirienced member of the warrior forum has a better Forum-Software in mind, which I should use?

2. The second question which comes up is: Which Domain should i use for the Forum from a SEO Point of view?
2.1: mysite [.] com/forum (a root in my joomla folders)
2.2: forum . mysite [.] com (Subdomain)
2.3: forumname [.] com (whole new site)

Here I really need help because I just do not know what`s best for my rankings. And which effekt the whole thing could have on my joomla-site or the joomla-site on the forum?

As an Information to this point (Because I do not know if this is relevant):
I plan to not allow signature-links in the forum.
I have around 60 normal Joomla-webpages which are ranking for Keywords with 1000 to 80000 searches a month and some Blogpost which are not very Keyword optimized.

I hope somebody can help me, thanks for reading and sorry if anything is unclear but unfortunately my english is not the best.

Thanks

On your SEO question, all three of your URL naming proposals will help. The order with the best results, as I understand it, is:
    1. forumname.com (new domain)
    2. mysite.com/forumname (folder on your existing domain)
    3. forumname.mysite.com (sub-domain name)
I have been told by some local IM professionals that sub-domains are less useful than they once were for SEO.

All SEO work depends on keyword selection first of all. You need to be sure you have chosen keywords that meet your business goals. Your core keyword phrase must have adequate traffic or there is little point in SEO.

Some other important things to do on your site:
    1. Use your keyword in the page title
    2. Include your keyword and related keywords in the meta tags for description and keywords
    3. Use your keyword in heading tags (H1, H2, etc.)
    4. Make your keyword bold at least once on the page
    5. Have a keyword density of 4% to 7% for your page
    6. Use your keyword in link text
    7. Use your keyword in image alt text (first 3, but no more)
The best resource for learning more about SEO is a tool called WebCEO (web site WebCEO.com). The free version does great and will explain all the SEO rules and show you how you did on your page. Even better, it lets you do SEO analysis on any web site - so use it to check out your competition.

Thx Big Leaf for your post.
Your post really turned me to a new point of view of my URL naming issue.
Because I never really thought about getting a different Keyword for my Forum than for my Joomlapage. But now i will think a bit about it, even if this is not very suitable at first sight.

Because actually I asked me more about the question: If I take mysite.com/forum for my Forum, if this would have some good or bad effects on my Joomla-pages and vice versa. So if this would improve the Pagerank (and etc.) of the overall site or if this would be bad for some Keywords and my goal to rank for them on page 1. Thats why I thought about getting a new domain. But I really have no experience with that and I hope that somebody here could help me with this question.

So Thanks and also thanks for the website Tipp.
