What is your backlinks strategy?

Hi everyone! This is my first post here. I'm also new to internet marketing in general, and I am hoping for some advice from those more experienced .

How do you generate backlinks? What is it that you actually do? So far, I have been doing three things -

1) submitting content to article directories and the like.
2) Contacting other bloggers, offering them guest blogs (with dofollow links)
3) Posting on forums with relevant subjects, with an anchor link in my signature.

Is that OK, and what else should I be doing? I feel like a spammer when I contact other bloggers, but I don't see what else I could do. As for the forum posts with signature, I understand they are pretty worthless in terms of backlinks, but at least it brings in traffic.

  • First of all, welcome to the Warrior Forum!

There are many different ways to generate backlinks, besides the ones you mentioned. Here's a quick list:

    1. Blog commenting
    2. Press releases
    3. Social bookmarking
    4. Creating content on web 2.0 sites
    5. Blog networks
    6. Link networks
    7. Link baiting
    8. Social media

These are just some of the ways to generate backlinks for your sites. It's all about having a strategy and sticking to it. Btw, forum signature backlinks aren't worthless, but you need to participate in many forums to make them count.

    Cheers,

    Josip

    • Get Josip's link building domination (see his signature). It will answer all your questions. I have been in the process of writing a link building report for several months now and his covers a lot of the same things I have been writing about. He knows his stuff.

  • Hiya

I think contacting other bloggers with guest blogs is a great idea - drop me a line?

    • Yeah Josip pretty much nailed it on the head.

There are many ways to get back links. You really don't have to contact anyone if you feel awkward about it. I haven't and I still do well in the search engines.

I like to mix it up a bit

Whenever I launch a new site I like to:

1] Setup an Rss feed and submit it to the Rss directories with something like Rss Submiter by Incansoft

2] Setup my site in my Google webmasters account.

3] Enter my url into a social bookmarking tool like SocialBot from Incansoft.

4] Create a press release and submit it to Pressbot by Incansoft.

5] Write a bunch of articles and submit them to top article marketing sites like Ezine, GoArticles, etc

6] Setup an open Linkwheel (more like a horseshoe) using a string of high pr "do follow" sites.

7] Write a bunch more articles to promote the Web 2.0 sites

8] Create Rss feeds for each Web 2.0 and submit to the Rss & Social bookmarking software, and create a press release for each web 2.0 site then ping everything using Pingler.

9] Find about 1000 do follow, relevant blogs with high PR (only checking pr of root url for blog).

10] Find about 1000 high, relevant, do follow forum to create profile backlinks with (again just checking PR of root url, ex: wwx.website.cpm/likethis.cpm. I check wwx.website.cpm

      That's the jist of it.

Everyday I will take about 20 of the blogs and and comment of them leaving my website address in the blog....i don't spam though I will read first and then comment....

Then I take 20 of the forums and create the accounts (but don't setup the profile), I will come back in one week and then setup my account including my website.

I rinse and repeat this process until I have my site in the #1 spot in Google.

About once a year I will switch things up.....just to keep things looking natural.

The biggest thing to remember is to find relevant sites to use for your backlinks. I've seen sites that have a boat load of links that were 90% junk links not related to their topic and they were ranking #5 or #6 in Google and then the sites in the #1 and #2 spots had fewer backlinks but they were relevant to their topics, (ex golf.....golf course, clubs, golf balls, etc)....
  • Creating profile pages from High PR sites. The most powerful I know of is getting a link from news blog that are of a similar niche.

    • Simpleonline, thanks! Those are some other things I had not thought of yet!

How many backlinks a month do y'all think one needs to progress? Do your meet your targets?
  • I prefer using the following for back-link building
    1] article submissions
    2] article bookmarking
    3] forum posting
    4] directory submissions
    5] social bookmarking
    6] blog posting

    • Another related question. I have heard from internet marketing folks that you need to produce unique content to submit to article submission sites, but I have seen that some people simply reproduce content that is already on their blog, so that the same article appears on, let's say, ezine articles, and your blog. Which is the right approach? Do you need an anchor link, or are sites that allow you to put your URL at the top of the article you submit OK?

And, those "URL directories" - I had never seen them before but there is a current thread here with a huge list of them, and I submitted my URL on a few of them. How productive is that, really?
  • My strategy?

    1) I spin an article that is at least 30% unique as given by dupecop.com

    2) Submit this article to the following:
    Traffic Kahuna
    SEOLinkVine
    ArticleRanks
    Niche Press Platinum
    Unique Article Wizard
    My Article Network
    Article Cartel
    Magic Article Submitter
    ArticleBot
    SENuke Web 2.0 sites

    3) I will bookmark my website using Bookmark Demon. I have over 50 different accounts on EACH bookmarking sites so that is very very random

    4) Next I'll grab all the RSS feeds from my site and submit the feeds to all the RSS sites using SENuke

That is good enough to rank keywords with simple competition. For tough keywords, it will take 5-6 rounds of the above steps. One round per month, so in six months I usually see my website rank within page 1 or 2 for tough keywords.

    • That is an awful lot of subscriptions just to rank for low competition keywords. And 5 times all that? Find a more efficient strategy...
