Hey I am doing a lot of seo work for a site I run which is HIGHLY competitive. I do want to share one way in which I have gotten a handful of links on homepages, ect. Has helped my rankings too!
What I do is go through my comp. backlinks and and sometime my actual competitors. I then will then take the time to read their site and send them an email via their contact forum. I will have a pre-made text in which I customize to fit their site.
I then offer them free content for their blog. Basically, the goal is to subject the subject something that is going to get their attention, followed by (NOT SPAM). For example, FREE CONTENT FOR SITE NAME HERE.
This has worked for the most part and I ask them to reference my article ect. More often than not they just add me to their partner section on their page. Usually a homepage links in which you will receive tons of links and the homepage link.
I guess I just wanted to know what some tactics you more experienced marketers use in order to get links from competitors sites.
