Anyone Willing to look over my site and comment on SEO?

Hey folks,

I have an niche auction site I've been building for over 2 years now. I have over 15k members and it's gaining steadily in popularity. (see signature link to visit site)

I think my SEO needs improvement though as only a handful come to the site from search engines.

I'd really like for an SEO savvi member of this forum to have a look over it and make some specific suggestions. e.g. is there something glaringly obvious I'm doing wrong.

I've done (and am constantly doing) reading on SEO, submitting articles, trying on page optimization (titles, tags, keywords etc), video marketing, but somethings just not right. I'm still getting only a few tens of visits a day from organic searches.

Would LOVE to hear back from anyone with site-specific suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Rich

The biggest issue is the number of links on the page. No way you are going to be able to easily sculpt your pagerank to show the most important pages on your site, and you are going to end up with internal pages with little or no pagerank. This could hurt your ability to build traffic from long tail keywords moving forward. So you might want to examine how you can slim that down some.

I would also ask how important using the redirect is to you. There is some reason to believe that this is not a good long term solution.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Thanks for the link to your pagerank scultping dvduval. So you think a max of about 10 links to pass juice to. Cool info, will negate some of the other links.

Also - the redirect is just part of a google optimizer experiment. I have a PR4 for the main landing page.

      Thanks again for the comments.

Look at your blog mate. Heavy internal linking (contextual links) is bad "at least for me" If the article posted in your blog is professionally written then you are wasting your money on paying your writers. putting tons of keywords and links on a single post. That is spammy and keyword stuffing on Google's eye.. Try to clean the mess up

Yea, it's paid for, only $5 per article - am looking for new writers though as I'm not fond of the recent article work they've done.

Hmmmm - so you think reduce the links in the post? How many internal link?

Also - how do you know whether something is working well or not. How can you gauge the effectiveness of a single blog post quantitatively?

      Thanks!

I am not going to set a number and say you have no more than 20 internal links on the homepage. I am just offering that pagerank is split from its source (mostly the homepage) down through your site. Increasing the flow of juice to internal pages can allow you to focus some goals on getting traffic to those pages.

Now in terms of content, make sure you aren't wasting your time sending people to pages that would be unlikely to bring about a response (ex. a poorly written article). There are some things you can do even with bad content to reduce the bounce rate, but still you need to make some pages that really have meaning or purpose for the person viewing them. Then they'll come back and buy something, etc.

The only thing I see is a lack of keyword diversity.

You have some very nice incoming links, such as the one from Discovery. However, most are linked on your domain name rather than keywords. The good news is that these top notch links are giving your site considerable authority in the shipping niche. My advice is that all you really need to do is to begin to target a wide range of shipping long tails while simultaneously work on 3-5 tougher keywords like 'cheap shipping', 'shipping freight' or 'furniture shipping'.

Thanks bgmacaw for taking a peek at the SEO of my site.

I have a question regarding your suggestion to target long tail - which is what I've been thinking of doing for a while now.

Which of the following would you recommend:

      i. Creating a URL structure like: {my domain}.php/{long tail keyword} then a page similar to my landing page, but targeting that keyword (title, tags, inbound links, keyword on page etc).

      or

ii. Keep developing my blog with new articles keyword targeted.

      Thanks in advance!

I think you are on the right track now, Rich. Just make sure you don't leave out the visitor in your strategy, They are what you should be focusing on the most - real users.

Right - I have Market Samurai, and am thinking of SEMRush.

With regard to what to do with the keywords which would you recommend:

      i. Creating a URL structure like: {my domain}.php/{long tail keyword} then a page similar to my landing page, but targeting that keyword (title, tags, inbound links, keyword on page etc).
