Link juice question:

Does a link on my homepage pass link juice to all of the directories in the link string.

Example com/ dir1 / dir2/ dir3 / examplepage.html

Does link juice get passed to directories 1 2 and 3, or just to examplepage?

Thanks.

  • It sounds like you are talking about a single link with other folder names in the URL. If that is the case then the answer is "only the page" where the link is pointing. It is also important to consider the number of internal pages you have going out of your homepage because the juice is split among all those pages.

    • Hey, thanks for the info.

I know there isn't a set number of out going links on a page. What would you recommend trying to keep the OGLs to?
  • When you use the word "outgoing" I think you are referring to links to other domains. EVERY such link is a loss of pagerank to the internal pages of your site, and reflexively to your homepage as well. And in the case of internal links there is evaporation of pagerank as links continue through your site, and just like externals, the outgoing pagerank is split among the links on the page.

So just to give an example, let's say you have a pagerank 3 site, and then you have 100 links (internal or external) on the page. There is going to be very little juice flowing from the homepage to internal pages because it is being split by 100.

  • The page rank is dived in the numbers of links, Like in 5PR page there is 5 link so every link will get 1PR juice.
