I didn't recommend you to trust that SOC thing..I always get ranking for SOC with really high value..

For competition, try to use market samurai, they gives you an analysis to top 10 result..it's the most important

I used Micro Niche Finder and it is a great tool but I have to use other tools as well to ensure that the keyword research is done thoroughly. I will usually compare the nos. with other tools as well like Google Adwords and with spyfu to obtain the CPC. Don't rely on just one tool for your research.

Use it for a good general approach as to what's going on. Also be sure to look at the Top 10 as someone else mentioned. I like seeing Amazon at the top but check out PR. I use Chrome and have and SEO Analysis tool installed so I can quickly check the PR, # of backlinks etc of a given website.

I Tend to find keywords that i feel have potential on MNF, i then run those keywords through MS to further dig into the on and off page SEO.

In my experience the SOC on MNF can not b trusted at all so you need to use other Tool(s) to determin how strong the competition is.

You should also use the allintitle search operator on google for your keyword to see how many other pages in googles index use your keywords in their title.

I have a good experience about Micro Niche Finder
and what I have noticed is, that it is not an exact science,
i.e. you cannot pick one keyword with zero competition
and to trust to get # 1 spot at Google.

I have used this tool for my army of the mini-sites,
which are monetized with AdSense only.

The promotional tools have been the articles and the target to get
a nice related traffic first from the article directories and later from the SEM.

Micro Niche Finder has made the keyword research, i.e. the niche research,
much quicker and easier, plus the keyword lists can be stored in the software,
which makes it easy to pick more related phrases later on.

@runner - You're on the money there, about it being an inexact science.

I use MNF, and must agree, its a handy tool, but its still just s tool and needs to be used as part of a comprehensive IM strategy. But it definately makes the task of keyword research a pile easier!

MNF is solid but always triple check the sources it uses. I have a few sites ranking top 3 with supposedly 3k+ exact match searches a month.

Top 3 spot getting me less than 1 visit per day.

That's not necesarily MNF's fault though, like most tools (including Market samurai etc) it relies on Google search data, which sometimes is just plain innacurate for some bizarre reason. I did wonder if Google included paid clicks in the stats, which would boost the numbers higher than just organic search.
