What about Backlink Automation?

Hello Warriors,

Perhaps the most daunting yet important task in SEO (or managing an online business itself), IMHO (at present, that is! :p) is building backlinks. Do you build backlinks automatically? Semi-automatically is also accepted.

What tools/services do you use? What plug-ins (with WordPress or any other CMS) do you use?

We're ideally talking about building quality backlinks, backlinks on sites with High PR domains and/or pages, and the like.

Backlink Automation may be what some of you might call Grey Hat, but if done right, it's not wrong and shouldn't alert the search engines about unnatural link building for any of your websites (or so I think). So, what's your good rule of thumb in terms of how quickly one should build a set number of backlinks? [Set your own number here - as you please ]

Thanks for any ideas/views on this one. This might be a very important question for many, me included; and I'm really hoping for some path breaking secrets being revealed out here. Any contribution helps... So, thanks in advance

there is no real number you can assign to any site for backlinks

several factors come into play here

      how old your site is

how much traffic is coming to your site

you can't be generating lots and lots of links of your not getting some kind of traffic

I was outsourcing all the my backlink building and then I joined a blog network that I could use to build contextual links with anchor text and I have seen some serious success. I don't think I will be outsourcing my links anymore, since it takes me 30 minutes to get my articles spun all over the network.

I build useful practical software for webmasters and distribute free and paid version of it.
Free version gives me backlinks. Paid does not have any backlinks.
This way i accumulated about 100,000+ of top quality, one-way, diversified, do-followed backlinks from high quality, active websites.

Clients sometimes either hire me or JV with me on such custom applications because it the only way to get on the first page in highly competitive (50m+ competing pages for $10+/click keywords) environments. I don't know of any more powerful, and google-friendly way to build top quality backlinks.
