Hi,

I have never purchased a "used" domain before and i need some advice on how to start building the site so it stays as a PR 4 in the future.

What is the best way to take advantage of this new website?

Will it rank faster because of the pr?

Annette.

  • To keep pr 4 atleast, you should do social bookmarking, article submission, directory submission, forum submission and blog commenting.
PR is not matter to rank faster.
Advantage only is that in reciprocal linking you should get backlink from higher pr sites.
  • If you are not using it right away, can you do 301 redirect to my domain?.....Just kidding

    • You should be immediately posting content to it or you will lose the PR (but because of age and back links it should be easier to get it back in the future if this does happen). Try to keep the content around the same subject as previously.
    • I will pay you more.

  • Hi Annette
    1. install a wordpress
    2. install an a good autoblogger (with back datable posts)
    3. install "seo all in one" plugins
    4. use the same keywords and add long tail keywords
    5. set the plugins
    6. set your ads- Amazon, Clickbank, ect..
    Forget it

    Buy the next domain

    go to 1

  • I am reading the answers and shaking my head. Looks like some inexperienced people.

A PR4 site is certainly nothing to sneeze at these days. The PR is not a reflection of how many visitors you get. Conversely, a site with high PR usualy gets a fair number of visitors.

I would be careful about making any quick changes. I would not play around with crummy low PR backlinks. Again, I am not saying the sites with lower PR are not good. Google is all about getting natural traffic. If you try to fool Google you will lose in the long run.

Always think about what your visitors want from you: good, solid content. That's what Google wants from you too. Don't obsess about PR. By the way, I think the "post often" advice, though not necessarily harmful, will not necessarily help your site growth or even Google's view of your site. I have a few sites that I almost never touch. They still get a lot of traffic. Go figure.

My answer to your question based on my 12 years experience is simple: don't make any changes to the site unless you have something worthwhile to put on it.

Digg and any other artificial traffic generators just give you spikes in traffic and not much lasting value, in my opinion.

    • Hi Annette,

If I understood you correctly you purchased a domain, not a website. If this is correct, then your first priority should be to get that domain pointed at a new or existing website immediately. Don't delay, for if you leave it pointed at a parked page it will get de-indexed and stripped of all PR. Don't put an "under construction" notice up either, just create a page with a little content until you figure what you want to put on the eventual site you will build.

It may be useful to look at the cached versions of the website from the past to get a good idea of what content was on the domain previously. You can use the Wayback Machine to look this up. Create a temporary new page that matches the theme and content of the previous version of the website to maintain the integretay of any backlinks to the domain that are still in place.

Setup a script or monitor the server log files to identify any 404 page not found errors and create 301 redirects to your new page. You want to try to maintan the integrity of any traffic that you may be receiving from preexisting backlinks. If you do this promptly you may be able to retain some of the formerly earned PR and traffic.

    • Hi,

Unfortunatly i have no idea what content the side had before i bought it.
I only got a domain and no theme

The site had 32 links in Google and only 24 links in Yahoo.

Soo..i have some work to doOr i`ll add a plugin from UAW and forget it and lick some sun on the beach

      Annette.

  • You should maintain a steady backlinking strategy if you want it to maintain the PR. It is not really with rank but with traffic.

And if you want to make money out of it instantly, you can start by selling links. It is really one of the easiest ways to cash in on high PR domains.
  • I suppose you mean rank higher?

From my experiences higher PR does necessary convert to a higher position on Google. I have site which is PR3 and currently is number 1 on a very competitive niche with a search volume of 50,000 a month (exact phrase). There are currently a few PR4, PR6 and even PR7 ranked below my site.

However it take me about two years to reach this position posting new articles daily (sometime a few articles) plus backlinking. I suppose it is my new contents daily which push up my position.

  • another good option is to continue the backlinking to your site with REAL do-follow backlinks, e.g. with

One GOOD (PLR-unique-Keyword relevant) article per week + Angels's backlinks is enough to keep and rapidly GROW your PR+google positon....controlled Autobloging would simply make it much easier (as well as)

  • YOu can go to archive. org and see how the previous site was setup. It may be that you can use the exact same filenames for those pages that had PR....although I have no idea how you can check this from past history!
  • You should have known the answer to the question BEFORE buying it.
  • PR and Ranking has no relation and if you thinking that you have pr 4 domain than you will get high rank in Google than you are going to big mistake. You can utilize your hi pr to post in directories, forums and blog commenting...
  • old domain have great impact on search engines just because of their age. now all you need to do is to make relevent project and do alot of things to promote it to take the benefits.
