SEO Main Page

I have a wordpress blog where my main page ranks well for one keyword (thanks to the domain name being the keyword). But I would like to rank with another generic keyword phrase.

Should I play around with the meta tags? If so, where do I go in wordpress to find that?

Should I write more articles with the "other" keyword phrase, hoping it will affect the main page ranking?

TIA

  • It all depends on the WP theme your are using but the basics are this:

If you want to rank for a specific term:
    1) Make it the first term in your title tag (this is probably your post title)
    2) Use it in an H1/2 tag (Might also be your post title depending on your setup)
    3) Use the word in your content (don't overkill)
    4) Get some links to your site or the pertinent post with the keyword as the anchor text

    Again, that's a start.
