How to increase Facebook fans to our local business fan page?

Hi, ALL

I just new in SEO, I've a daily deals website masthideals.com, I am trying to increase the amount of fans following our facebook fan page in our local area. We are a local service based business and I am trying to greatly increase our base of followers in our local area. What is the best way to do this without spamming. I really want to get people to want to follow us and create some excitement around our service.

    Facebook went and changed things up, recently switching the "Become a Fan" of a page option to now encouraging people to "Like" a page. People are still technically "fans" of a Facebook page.

    It's not easy building up a Facebook Fan page. You have to get over an imagined critical number. No one wants to like something that isn't already well-liked. People use the herd mentality for this type of stuff.

    One contributor on my site has about 1800 Facebook fans and growing. I asked him to make a fan page for our site thinking that he knew the secret that I couldn't figure out myself.

    Guess how many fans are on our page? Six, lol. The guy with 1800 fans sets up my fan page and we've got six facebook fans, go figure. To be fair, he helped pumped up another fan page of mine from 22 to 105.

    One thing he said, is that it helps to like/comment on other people's fan pages. Once you get a few hundred fans, it takes off from there.

    Facebook is different than Twitter in that it's much more personal to like a page since it shows up on your account.
