Close a Link Wheel?

I've been hearing conflicting reports...

Is it better to close your link wheel or leave it open...like a "horse shoe"?

  • Kind of obvious but if it is not closed then it is not a link wheel now is it? If you think of it that way then you can decide if you indeed want it to be a link wheel or just related links.

    Why do related sites have to be linked up like a wheel? When does that happen naturally if it is not some one doing SEO? Keep that in mind.
