If I had an account on a forum where I had built up a nice collection of backlinks from my signature in my post...about 50 or so....my account was deleted after about 9 months of time wasted building my account...I wasn't spamming because I liked the forum.....will my links to my site be taken away since my account if no longer found?

thanks

If your posts and links have been deleted, theoretically search engines will discontinue those links next time they crawl those pages that contain your links.

Most likely NOT. I wont be a good idea for a webmaster to delete your posts if you've contributed. The whole point of the discussion would be lost if people are replaying to your posts.

It would depend on the forum script being used and the specific configuration used by the forum owner/moderators. It's impossible to say for sure, but if your links were in your sig then I know some forums that allow mods to pull sigs without deleting associated posts.

The links remain there, but eventually dissapear when they get crawled again. Put they cannot get banned.

If you were posting to build backlinks, then you were spamming.

Cbpayne....I think you need to understand what spamming is all about...if I was just posting randomly without reading then I would be spamming. I read the post to contribute then posted a link which is not spamming but bartering content for the backlink

So why did they ban you?

I ban and delete accounts daily of lots of people from my network of forums who claim to be doing just what you are claiming to be doing! A spammer is a spmmer no matter how you want to window dress it or rationlize what you were doing.

Bartering content for a link is spamming. If the forum owner thinks its spam, then its spam.

In the last 10 minutes I have banned and deleted two members from my forums who think like you do. Its spam, no matter how you want to rationalise or 'window dresss' it.

Nope. They get banned for fluff posting if they have links in their signatures. Fluff posters NEVER become valuable members of the community and more and more forum admins are just banning them sooner rather and later these days - they just not worth it as they only there to get the links (as the thread starter found out).

So, Big Chris got banned for doing this?

Nobody knows for sure, and you're too quick to judge a person. He's just asking and seeking for answers.

Could I suggest this thread be taken out to off-topic discussion? Mods?

If they ban your account, your links will disappear from search engine, not right away, probably takes sometime. Don't worry, you can build up again.

How is this for an eg. The first new member I checked this AM on one of the forums registered with a username of Crystalsmile23 , but the name on their email is shaneaubrey23@ (alarm bell number one). I use one of my admin tools to do a quick google search for 'Crystalsmile23 view profile' and find lots (big alarm bell number two). I check their profile, its got a signature link to a tooth whitening service (alarm bell number three); thats enough, they banned. They clearly joining to get backlinks rather than joining to be a member of the community. They are a spammer, so using my forum tools, their username and IP were sent to the stopforumspam database.

BTW, it is a forum for a particular type of health professional that has nothing to do with teeth, so they not a particualry bright spammer.

Good job. Well done. Ban them to hell.

Btw, check my previous discussion. I'm also one of those guys who're against spamming forum profile. I even provided some stats on how spamming profile is wasting time and money in the long run. Because the lifetime of a forum profile never stays long. Forum owners will delete it faster than it is created. The search spider will ignore it once its algo kicks in.

          Something sidetrack...

Certain people in this forum did said this before -- "That's why creates more profiles faster!"

          How foolish they are!

Machine can never get angry. Human does it very well. And human controls the machine. Who're they against?

The worst is that human is able to rally massive IP blockage. Innocent net users will be affected!

I hope people who're spamming profile should really use their brains.

Anyway, the only thing, in my opinion, I can compromise is that, if a person wants to advertise a content with link, he or she should get an agreement with forum owner first. This agreement should benefit the forum owner and the participants. That's why I said previously -- a certain common interest.

Now, let's see if you can dig the history of this "Big Chris".

Easy solution: go to that forum and look at a thread that you've commented on. Is it still there?
Yes, this would be the easy way to find out.

But even if they are gone, is it that big of a deal? The juice from multiple links from the same place is diminished so you weren't getting the power of 50 "different" links.

It depends. Did they delete your posts? If so, your backlinks will be gone as well. If not, your backlinks will still be live.
