Keyword Age, More Improtant Than We Think?

Hey Warriors

I've been thinking/studying about keyword age for sometime. Then today I did a search 'windows 7 fast', I have been using both mac's and PC's for many years now, and I have recently been impressed with the speed of Window 7 on my MacBook.

Lets avoid the PC vs Mac debate, I want to concentate on SEO.

Search 'windows 7 fast' right now and you will see all the results seem to be from before windows 7 actually came out, as if Google was only interested in the first mention of this keyword.

How important do you think keyword age is to keywords your interested in?

It seems a good understanding of how G understand keyword age would really help you in achieving continued rankings for your projects.

Happy SEO
Tom

p.s. please don't that this being my first post as a sign of seo ignorance, Im just new to warrior not seo.

Interesting thought, this is the first I've really ever heard of keyword age...

So are you saying that maybe then the age of a keyword would be directly related to the first instances of that particular keyword ever being searched for on the search engines, or the first time that keyword was ever used in indexed web site content?

It doesn't seem like something that would really factor into SEO, but you never know I guess

Yes the first time the keyword was ever indexed. If it represented a new keyword/meme then G would have to spend some time trying to understand how to rank this new content, so you would see much variance in initial results, but it seems to finally settle on a longer term ranking which is pretty much set.

So keywords that have existed since the birth of the index or for many years would not be under such rules, just 'new' keywords.

I don't really think that there would be a difference in sites ranking for a keyword based on the age of the keyword in the index itself - I think Google (just one engine for example) would probably just always look for the most relevant result based on their algorithms

An interesting thing - I just made up the word crabblerouster and looked it up in Google - no results - how long do you think it might take before this thread pops in the results for this word? I'll have to check it again later since spiders are probably all over this site each day

In the same manner that domain age carries weight it would make sense that content (or page) age also carries weight. Strictly speaking though, this isn't really 'keyword age' as such.

However, with every new gadget that comes out (I'm thinking of the iPad as a for-instance) there's typically a landgrab for organic rannkings, which often starts even before actual release to market. It wouldn't surprise me if these first pages to rank were difficult to beat because of some notional 'grandfather rights'.
