I'm fairly new and I'm currently trying to rank for this keyword. I analyzed the backlinks of the top sites and most of them are from directories that require you to either pay or link to their website. Also most of the guys in the top ten are listed in Dmoz and Yahoo directories. I was wondering if you guys have any advice on what to do to rank for it as I'm currently on a very tight budget and can't afford to either outsource anything or get a listing in any directories.

    Whats the keyword?

If as you say you are on a tight budget, you may be better off starting out with a less competitive keyword or phrase.......I can help you, but I'd really need to know the keyword.

I understand if you don't want to release that info though........

    Good Luck

Might be a little tough but I am looking at Number 9 spot and I see they are not listed on Dmoz, Not listed in Yahoo directory, PR 2 which can be done easily with links of 200 plus..The KW is in the title tag, the URL includes the KW, and the heading also have the KW. 200 plus links should take you like 3-6 months depending on hard you work, and make sure you have the KW in Title, URL and heading. Make sure all links are related to your site and high PR. I think its doable. Ignore any site that are included in Yahoo directory unless you want to spend $300 per year to get listed. Dmoz are almost impossible to get in. Good luck!

If you don't know how, just ask me and I will though the competition here is tough but not tougher than what I have conquered with the wonder wheel
      Can you elaborate on this?

Just going from the information shown, that word isn't too hard. Don't expect results in a month's time but give it 6 months and you will be on the front page if you have the backlink plan to support it.

I wouldn't start with that word but it is definitely doable.

Maybe a little off-topic, but would the pages in the top 10 from Youtube, Wikipedia etc be easier to outrank? I'm still new to SEO and I see people constantly outranking such sites which have tons of BLPs.

You can outrank any site if you are prepared to spend on traffic and backlinks. But as you are on a tight budget, that may not be possible. So, whatever your keyword is, you will get out what you put in.

I recently out performed a copyright holder on one of their products. It did not happen over night - I spent a lot on it (and still do).
So, have a think and see if you can compete.

    Good luck

as HHunt told that for SEO you have to be prepare with your budget and you already have tight budget so its hard. My suggestion is to start with low competitive keywords.

I think you need to work on original content and backlinks which you can do your self.

Backlinks definitely - but if it's extremely competitive then you can't afford to slip up. build consistent backlinks - heaps everyday. if you stop then you will risk slipping back down!

I'm new to SEO. What am i missing in those numbers? It doesn't look ultra competitive, and why is there an incosistency with the green and yellow colouring?
