Other than the Open Directory Project what are some other good general web directories? Directories with a good page rank and deep links are preferred. Also, how much are directories used in these days of the internet?

I use directories to gain human traffic, not for PR purposes. Because of this, I target popular, niche-specific directories

The amount of human traffic I ever got from directories was slim to none.

I can't discount what others have said, but I can't see spending much time
submitting to directories, unless it's yahoo.

      Google:
"Directory entries are often mentioned as another way to promote young sites in the Google index. There are great, topical directories that add value to the Internet. But there are not many of them in proportion to those of lower quality. If you decide to submit your site to a directory, make sure it's on topic, moderated, and well structured. Mass submissions, which are sometimes offered as a quick work-around SEO method, are mostly useless and not likely to serve your purposes."
I'm just not sure how much human traffic even gets into the mix with directories.

Why yahoo? What are the benefits of the yahoo directory? More PR focused or traffic?

        Thanks!

If they are niche-specific directory websites, they seem to generate some visitors. For example, I am working on a local painter's website and I submitted his site to artist directories - I have already started to see some visitors from that site. Just my experience.

Yahoo is known as a good way to get your domain bumped up in the authority department. DMOZ, BOTW, and Business.com are the big ones that are usually mentioned.

Listen to 4d-media.ca, in my experience as well the industry-specific directories are often old and under utilized they can really help with rankings.

I love ABC-Directory. Most of my sites see their backlinks indexed within a few days and one of my submissions is even ranking #3 on the first page of Google for the keyword I targeted (and the submission is nothing more than a title, link, tags, and short description).
