Blogspot vs .com/.org how does it compare in SEO?

I have a site that is current #3 for it's keyword terms and I have about 200 or so links to the site. I used to be #2 under Amazon which is number #1.

This site came out of no where and took the number #2 spot from me and for the life of me I cannot get the ranking back.

I did some research on the site and there is no backlinks to the site other than inner linking to the few pages of content.

My site is *link removed*

I have around 344 backlinks to the site and quite a few of them relevant.

Any ideas on how I can out rank this guy?

The only thing that I could come up with is that his site is a .org and mine is a blogger site.....but if you google "how to make money online for beginners" it's held down by a blogger site....so I was thinking it must be something else...

Any input would be awesome...thanks

A year ago I would have said that it doesn't make any difference, get good links, but the recent updates seem to have caused subdomains to be discounted under certain circumstances. Being on Blogger, unfortunately, seems to be one of those circumstances.

The best thing to do, aside from starting over again on a top level domain, is to seek out and get good, strong, authority links. This should help overcome the subdomain discounting that seems to be in effect now.

Just to note, I'm not certain about the subdomain discounting, I could be wrong. However, this trend is what I'm seeing on my own Blogger sites and some other sites/keywords I track.

His site is more relevant than yours. His domain is an emd that makes his site highly relevant. He has 10 relevant posts while you have only 7.

    1. Add more relevant content/posts.
    2. Get more links.

emds are already taken for this keyword.

You are already at # 4. You can rank higher if you add more relevant content.

Just me, but my blogspot blogs have taken off, while my dot coms
have not. I have switched most over and the effects are terrific.

But being tipped of by bgmacaw, I shall keep a closer eye this month, as
I recently switched them. In fact, I will wait on switching another.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Gotcha....so it doesn't only matter how many links you have but how much content you have as well?

So if a competing site has 10 pages of relevant content I will need 11 pages of relevant content to boot them from the ranking spot?

Other than that my links are nice...around 224 or so.....quite a few relevant to my site.

Remember that I'm just seeing this effect on a small sample of sites with varied link profiles and keywords so I may be wrong or only seeing a small part of the big picture. But, given some recent shifts in ranking, I have to wonder if there's been an algorithmic change.

There is little doubt that having authority links makes a huge difference still. I have one Blogger blog that has an unsolicited link from an article on Slate and it's the only one of mine, out of about 50, that's still doing well.

Alright I think I'm set.....the competition has 10 pages of content and I now have 11 pages of content.

I pinged the site using Pingler and Pingomatic.

now the big question......haha....how long do you think it will take Google to get up off it's butt and show any of the change?

Do you think that is enough just knock them out of the spot or should I go out and toss some relevant blog comments and such at the site?

I just recently wrote a few articles...one to Ezine and one to GoArticles...I have about 20 more on reserve...should I blast those out to the remaining article directories or just wait?

Hey thanks guys for all the help you've given me.

To outrank your competitors your site must be more relevant and more reputable. One way is to have more relevant content. It has no relation with the number of pages. Why don't you add those 20 articles to your blog?

        EMD = Exact Match Domain

        To OP -

        In addition to the above...

I'm no SEO expert, but one difference I see is that he/she has a lot more relevant content on the home page. You'll see this on griz's site too (the makemoneyonlineforbeginners guy).

And I'm not really sure what this is really worth, but he/she also has About, Contact, and Privacy pages.

There are also lots of comments (surely pulled in from Amazon automatically).
