One page Affiliate Site - can it outrank site with 100 pages?

Let's that I had a website that was setup to promote a single product....let's say an automatic hammer....I don't have 1000 things to talk about here so I just have one page....my sales page.....can that one page site outrank a site that has 100 pages of content about hammers but not my hammer? Just hammers in general.

I'm trying to figure out something here....I always thought that your rankings were figured by how many quality, relevant backlinks your site has......I'm reading that people are saying that it's more about amount of relevant content on the site that floats these sites to the top in Google.....I'm confused...can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    You rankings are figured by literally hundreds of things. I would say if you pick a very uncompetitive niche and play your cars right, you could probably pull off a top spot with a 1 page site but I'm thinking it would take some serious effort to get there and stay there.

    Yes you can do it but it would not be easy, one of the things that helps with SEO is activity and with a 1 page affiliate site you would be regulated to having not much if any activity on the page. Now if you wanted to work the site from a backlinks angle you may get it to the #1 position.

    I've seen it done before...but it will take lots of work. You're going to have to promote your one keyword like crazy in order to make it work.
