Today while I was researching for some keywords and looking to global monthly searches one mind bothering question came up. How many searches are real and how many are from competition ? Let's asume we have 50 competing marketers in a niche and they check daily they rankings, how many searches they stole from that estimation ? wow 1500 per month. And this is an optimistic scenario.

Based on your experience with low competing keywords what should be the minimum search volume for a keyword to be eligible ?

    To be eligible for what?

As you correctly suspect, the vast majority of high-volume searches are not genuine: they are caused by SEOs, webmasters and software checking rankings. There just isn't any good, clean, reliable data because Google does not report click statistics. Alas!

You can never tell how many searches are from competitors, researches and other people who have no interest in buying. The only way to be sure is to set up a low impact website, and see how many people are willing to buy. There may be some keywords that have noone BUT buyers but you will never know until you try.

It comes down to the keyword really.

If the keyword is a buzz word in the affilaite circles, then yes when you see high traffic and low sales, guess what, uh huh alot of that traffic is from competitors etc.

Had this happen in my ... niche, oops almost created some more useless traffic.

Guard your keywords, they containt the gold.
