I've read a few things about landing pages getting bad quality scores on Adwords.

Whats the deal with this?

If it's true what is the recommended way to handle it? or do you just accept it?

  • Landing pages don't get quality scores. Keyword phrases in the ad groups do.

A landing page that is not relevant to the keyword phrases in the ad group(s) that send(s) traffic to the landing page can cause the quality score of those keyword phrases that don't match the theme of the landing page to be lower. Similarly if your ad for a particular ad group is not relevant to the keyword phrases in that ad group then the quality score of the keyword phrases in the ad group which don't match the ad can be lowered.

Google wants to show ads that match the keyword phrase in that ad group. So having the keywords from the ad group in the title, 2 lines of text, and even the display URL can increase your ad group keywords' quality score. Doing so has been shown to increase CTR which also improves your quality score. Having those same keywords from your ad group in the landing page used by the ad can increase your quality score.

As always with Google it's all about relevance... relevance of the ad and landing page to the keywords in the ad group.

If it's just a bridge page promoting a product, they will hate you and may even ban you.

You should change the title to:

      Google hates affiliate marketers.

Simple landing pages that only contain a few sentences or video and an optin box will not work and could get you banned for life from AdWrods.

You need to have content on your landing page that is relevate to the keyword you are bidding on.

You should also have some additional pages such as Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, Terms of Service and such as this will increase the value of your landing page in the eyes of Google.

Bottom line is that Google doesn't approve of page that their soul purpose is information gathering (emails) without delivering any valuable content.

When you think about it, it makes sense as Google is all about providing the users with the best and most relevant content for the keywords they are searching for.
