Getting a site indexed

This is going to seem like a strange question but why do so many people ask how to get their sites indexed and why do so many people make a fuss about showing you how to do it?

All of my sites have been indexed in google on the same day that I added them to the webmaster tools, isn't that the same for every1?

  • Hi Phsims,

I usually get indexed within 24 hours by doing the following:
    1. Upload, activate & configure the Google XML Sitemaps plugin (make sure you have the "Write a gzipped file" setting checked). Don't forget to "update options" when done.
    2. Rebuild the sitemap
    3. Login to Google Webmaster Tools and add your site (You want to add your site twice, once with www & once without).
    4. Now go to site configuration > settings and pick how you want to display your url's (I usually display the url without the www). Don't forget to save.
    5. Now you want to go to site configuration > sitemaps and submit the following sitemap: sitemap.xml.gz (which was created by the Google XML Sitemaps plugin). You only need to submit the sitemap once (So make sure you you submit the sitemap, via the domain that you set as your display url).
So that's what I do to get indexed.

  • true..or a back link from a fresh page that is indexed in google would also do the job
  • yes it same. i did it too
  • Yeah, I find it weird too. what is the big rush? I just go make a digg post and I am in the index for any site.
