Agreed. Get working on building high quality, relevant backlinks to your blogs (or outsource the task if you don't know how/don't have the time).

Also, use an SEO plugin on WP (All In One SEO pack is the most popular).

Get all in on SEO Pack for WP, it's free and easy to use. Also make sure you configure it and "activate" it as many people actually forget... Then just power through and send as many backlinks as you can!

In terms of SEO wordpress one of the HUGE mistakes that I see people making all the time is failing to set their permalinks to optimize for long-tail keywords of your article names.

Go to permalinks and change it to a custom structure and enter: /%postname%/

What this does is rename all of your posts to the post title. This gives the GBot a better idea of what your content is and definitely helps you rank for keywords you weren't even trying to.

My .02

Make sure you have the 'All In One SEO Pack' installed and configured for the keywords you want to rank for.

Make sure the permalinks are set to '%postname%' so that your post titles appear in your domain name.

Make sure you put your keyword in the title of each post and once per 100 words.

Build quality incoming links from web 2.0 properties and link to individual pages not just the root domain.

One of the things I do, although I can 't vouch that it helps ranking at all, is use a 2-column layout with the content on the left and the navigation on the right (or at least structure the underlying code so the content comes first).

My understanding is Google spider reads from top to bottom, so it will hit my keyword focused content first, then the navigation links....

That has the added benefits of positioning the content where the users tends to focus his or her gaze first.

I do use All In One SEO to optimize my title, keywords and description.....

Try Jeff Johnson's wordpress SEO plug-in, works great.

If you know what you're doing get All In One SEO Pack.

Otherwise get SEO Pressor (by Daniel Tan), it's a paid plugin but it's pretty awesome.

It will score your posts and pages and give you suggestions on how to improve them.

Add an xml sitemap... helps make sure all your pages are indexed.

Go to Settings > Writting, and in the very bottom you will see the "Update Services" box where you can add ping services url. Put lots of urls of ping services per line there. Then hit save.
