thought I would ask others opinions of this -

ok, we are all led to believe that obtaining high pr backlinks will really boost our site in serps. Is that really true?

Heres why i ask - I have a relatvely new site (about 2 months old) not in a particularly competitive field. In fact its a local site related to the city where I live. I have managed to obtain backlinks myself from high pr blogs through sensible commenting (all do follow by the way). I have 4 PR5 back links and a PR6 backlink. not bad I think in anyones book.

These links are all showing up in googles webmaster tools and it is indexed by google with about 50 results.

So have I seen a great boost in the serps? Not a bit! My site is nowhere to be found in google or yahoo for my main search terms (which are contained in my domain name)

now maybe I am jumping the gun a little early wanting results, but is there really value in these high PR links, or is it only a myth? We are led to believe they can really boost your rankings and your own site pr.

am I being impatient, or do these links really impart little value at all?
#backlinks #good #high
  • I'm probs not the best person to ask but from my own experience, I have had the same.

I bought a few permanent PR3 - PR6 Homepage backlinks on fiverr. Plus a couple of backlinks on some decent high PR blogs which you could comment on, and my rank stayed the same.

I don't know if this is just coincidence but i've found that forum backlinks seem to have the most impact on the rank of my website.

I think you are being a little bit impatience always back links will help you not just to boost your rank, but to attract traffic, you just keep getting back links from industry related sites, leave useful comments in your industry blogs and you will see results. The main problem in my perspective, is that many people want the result almost immediately

Honestly you won't be seeing anything significant with 5 backlinks

I should have added that I have other links back as well. But my main question was the helpfulness of high pr back links and just how effective they are.

Having backlink from high PR sites and having a high PR on your own site, doesn't help at all to rank on front page.

High PR site just got indexed faster. To rank high you must have the relevant keyword in your backlink, its call "anchor text".

To help you understand more, try enter "click here" on google.com and the 1st position is Adobe reader download page. If you search the download page there wasn't even a word mention "click here" nor does it in its meta tag (use view source to check).

But since there are too many people linking back to that page with the anchor text "click here", google return that page as most relevant search results to the keyword "click here".

          Hi steviemac40,

Yes, PR is used to weight the value of inbound links, however I see a few potential problems with your approach. First thing you need to understand is that PR is not assigned to blogs or websites, instead PR is assigned to individual pages. So while that blog's homepage may have a PR5 the page where your post appears could have PR0.

Additional the total value, sometimes called link juice, is diluted by the number of outbound links causing your backlink from a PR5 page to pass a tiny fraction of its' potential value.

Another weighting factor is Trust, which means your brand new links have not been around long enough to have earned trust.

And finally, SERPs are not ranked based on PR they are ranked based on relevance. Backlinks may have an influence on relevance, but only if you apply the correct tactics. You need to learn how backlinks effect relevance and employ an effective strategy for improving your page's relevancy score for your targeted keyword.

I don't know whether they're any good.. I've had a couple of decent PR back links on a blog site I had but didn't really work. I've always found forum backlinks are best.

Oh.. and hello to everyone I am new to this forum

You need hundreds of backlinks if not thousands
