Got Top of Google... but ONLY in Firefox??

I recently took a new site to top of Google (position 3) but that ranking only shows in Firefox. In I.E., it's on page 7. That's a huge difference. Does one browser carry more weight than the other?

Why is this?

Already thought of that. Cleared cache in both browsers. Results the same.

So either there's something to this 'browser difference' when showing results, or something went wrong in the clearing process. But how hard can that be ;-)

      Strange.

    Yup..."personalized results".

You've been there before in Firefox.

    It happens all the time.

Yes, make sure you log out of your Google account and clear the history.

I experienced the same problem with Firefox and Chrome actually... but I think it's just a synchronization problem (with Google's servers).

Even when you're logged out of your google account, personalized search exists. To turn it off, do a google search (for any term), then look at the top for "web history" and turn off personalized search there.

    What's "personalized search"? I don't see that.

Also, I'm signed out of all Google accounts. But just had a friend search Google using my keyword phrase and I'm showing up on page 7 in Firefox, I.E. and Chrome now.

Don't know why Firefox still shows page 1 for me (after clearing cache).

So guess I made it to page 1 for a day, after 2 weeks. Although that seems fast for a new site.

    Appreciate the feedback

I'm almost certain it's your browser that is set for personalized search.

Google automatically personalizes searches on browsers (by using a cookie). This is done without you knowing about it (this means it can be done even if you're not signed in to your google account).

        That corrected the issue.

        Thanks

Personalized Search is a way for Google to show more relevant search queries to each user. As long as you're not logged into Google in FireFox then that's not the issue. It is very odd that you're seeing different results with FireFox and IE. The only reasons I can think of is cache and personalized search.

Rankings doi vary from IP to IP but not from browser to browser. For instance, someone in Dublin Ireland will probably see differenr results than someone in Darmstadt Germany.
