If I were Ryan Abood I'd be FURIOUS at the company that was buying links and that ended up getting him totally hosed by Google.

I can't say I really blame Google in this case, because their policies are clear.

  • The lesson is (in case you already didn't realize this): when you pay a contractor you need to know what they're doing and check on their methods, because ultimately you're the one who will be responsible for their actions.

    • I don't think it was buying links that got him penalized. It probably had more to do with the SEO company he was using buying links for all their clients on irrelevant spamy sites. Google notices patterns like this faster than I can spell the word s-p-a-m.

      The funny thing I found was that Verticle Measures had the nerve to not only comment on that article but leave a link back to their site. I know for a fact that they buy hundreds of links, if not thousands LOL

      It was a great read and if anything shows you that social media works and not keeping your eggs in one basic just because it is working really well for you right now.
  • Also Google left a comment though I can't see Google doing this publicly you can now see a new comment by the which says:

    Your title is misleading. You have 24 hours from now to change it failing which we will take legal action to remedy this situation.

    • If you read the article, be sure to read the commits.
    • You see that the title of that comment has now been changed to "abuse"? I had a feeling it was a spam comment. Realistically speaking, I don't see Google threatening to take legal action over that particular article, and if they did - I don't see them doing it via a comment left in the comments section, which would not serve as any kind of official notification. Google has laywers. The lawyers know the proper channel to serve a cease and desist letter.
