It's possible, in my experience throwing too many links at a newer website can be detrimental to your rankings, in other words don't backlink spam your site. It's also possible this is temporary and you'll pop back up in a few days.

I am still ranked for other keywords..

Completely temporary and just the way it goes. It will probably come back higher than before...then lose a little ranking...disappear for a day...then come back....

I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Thanks that gives me some confidence..however I've never had that happen to my other sites. Its very strange if you ask me. So is there a way to have it NOT disappear continuously. I guess only with time it will stay right?

If you are throwing out too many links too soon, this is not a good thing at all. You want to slowly do this.

Personally, I have never had a problem with link velocity. First of all, links don't get indexed immediately. Secondly, from a natural perspective, links ebb and flow. This whole notion that what looks "natural" is 10-15 links a day is not really natural at all- it actually looks more automated.

To think that you would automatically get filtered if you dropped a few hundred backlinks flies in the face of those of us who have had 1000's of backlinks in a few hours from linkbait.

On sites in which I don't do a lot of link building, I notice that non-engineered backlinks come in spurts. One post can boost you with 100's of backlinks in a day and then it's tumbleweed city for a month...

Blackhat marketers who use spam tools like xrumer don't get deindexed. And they rank. The deal is they have to go through the normal process that all other marketers go through to rank...and that is usually a shuffling and re-shuffling process.

Then again, I wouldn't consider myself an SEO. I am just an internet marketer.

Just my opinion though.

It can't possibly be true. And I'll tell you why it can't possibly be true, too: if Google really "impeded" sites for making too many backlinks too quickly, it would be one of the most trivially easy ways in the world for anyone and everyone to disable their competitors' websites. Now, I grant you, Google can occasionally seem a little eccentric over one or two things, but I think we can all pretty unambivalently and firmly agree, can't we, that they're not quite so stupid as to facilitate the unmitigated chaos in which that would undoubtedly result?!

This has got as much truth in it as "duplicate content penalties" for syndicated articles - in other words it's one of the "urban myths of internet marketing": it's totally without foundation. People who suggest otherwise are simply repeating widespread misinformation they've seen regurgitated by others who were themselves ill-informed and just hadn't thought it through.

That is assuming since the June full implementation of Google's cloud computing that they are too ethical or moral to not follow every site owners TCP packets. Which they now have the ability to do for pennies.

In any case, I am sure you have tested it since June. I myself have not. Dell, Pedigree and a whole host of large corporations are still writing articles and social book-marking their own sites. (I see articles by those corps under many names, all leading back to the companies home page in Ezines and other directories all the time.) So, I assume they know it is OK still, as I am pretty sure they do constantly test what they are doing... though that is mere conjecture on my part.

You are definitely right they constantly change their algorithm and they way they rank sites its frustrating. However I still think its impossible to exactly measure how many backlinks a new site is "SUPPOSED" too have.
Its ridiculous to put a number on it because no one really knows. Saying ohhhh 10 to 15 is the right number..give me a break

I agree somewhat with this post, but I've done testing where I blasted thousands of links to a couple of test domains (new and aged) and the result was almost always the same. On the new domain names, they would get super strong rankings almost always top 1 (keep in mind these are easy kws) but after a short time they would be deindexed altogether or get pushed back thousands of pages. On the older sites, my testing has shown rankings to increase and the site will "dance" on the SERPS for a while and eventually stabilize in a strong(er) position but never have they gone totally deindexed. My thinking is domain age plays a huge role how google ranks your site.

Your logic is that if sandboxing was real we would simply blast our competitors sites off the SERPS and while I agree that in theory it would be that simple, youre ignoring all the other factors such as domain age and strength of your competitors. Try blasting a 15 year old site with 200,000 backlinks off the serps. So in conclusion, I believe you should take your own advice and stop "repeating widespread misinformation they've seen regurgitated by others who were themselves ill-informed and just hadn't thought it through." Im not saying my theory is RIGHT or WRONG, but I dont think you should be claiming this is "Totally without foundation" without doing any testing for yourself.

Oh, I agree... Just when they eventually find 19,000 spun articles all submitted the same day, (even though discovered over a period of weeks), I cannot help but think they might look in the TCP trace logs and see who put them up... But that is just me being paranoid. I am sure they are conducting their surveillance abilities with the same ethical and moral tenets we have come to know them for, such as the introduction of sidewiki and other equally ethical and high moral standard products and actions, such as banning 'spam' Adsense clients for life with no explanation. Spammers don't deserve an explanation!

I personally agree with the above post. Older websites seem to have more strength, however I have ranked for a difficult keyword for about 2 months now with a new website..about 4 months or so old.
